Just bought a new laptop today on Newegg. I bought an ASUS G751JY-DH71.

-2.5 Core i7 4710HQ
-24GB DDR3 1600 RAM
-GTX 980M 4GB
-256GB SSD (2 x 128 in RAID 0)
-1TB 7200RPM 2.5" HD
-17.3" 1980x1080 IPS Panel

Pretty excited. I've been working a lot and saving up since my Sandy went belly up in October. Also bought a Logitech G710 (not the Plus, this one has the Cherry MX Blue switches versus Brown) and a Logitech G402 mouse. My MS Wheel Mouse Optical and Dell USB Multimedia Keyboard have seen better days since they were first put into service probably all of ten years ago.

I previous had a G710+ keyboard, but the QC on that model wasn't too hot.

That's one heck of a computer! 24GB of DDR3

That puts my MacBook Air to shame! A lot of shame.

My current laptop is very old Dell Vostro 1000 I bought 7-9 years ago. The original memory was 1 GB and updated to 2 GB few years ago.

Your memory at 24 GB is 12 times mine, so yours must be 20-50 times faster.

Besides getting through the Assassins Creed games and plenty of other PC games (I don't console game), I plan to do 3-4 virtual machines at one time... my little test lab of sorts.

General use, video encoding, gaming, etc.

I plan to have this computer for many years.

That would drive me batty. I couldn't deal with that. You PC people must have nerves of steel.

Very nice. I currently have a gaming PC and a very low power (AWD E-350 APU) ultra-portable.

I do regret not being able to play more than Civ 5 on the lowest setting, with the smallest map, so my next lappy will definitely be beefier. For as much as you spent, though, I think I'd still prefer to upgrade my PC PSF and video card, to eek out a few more years, and spend the rest on a decent lappy, with a smaller GTX card, single SSD, and a smaller foot print, for when I travel. I don't mind a larger, 17" laptop, but how is that big rig on the go?

My current slow lappy is only around 4 years old, though, so I've got some time before I can justify a new one. I'm also interested to see what future chipsets offer (Skylake and beyond.)

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. Just waiting on 3-Day Newegg UPS shipping. Apparently it's all coming from Indiana.

This should have plenty of power and the convenience of portability when I want to play some games with friends.

redhat nice laptop What did it cost? With those specs Win 10 should be no problem. Let us know how well it works for games.

Thank you. It was $2,278. Keyboard was $119.99 and mouse was $49.95. Add another $.99 for 3-Day Newegg and we're up to $2,448.93.

Yeah a good chunk of change and I know without a doubt 100% I could've built a killer desktop for half the price, but I didn't want two machines (gaming desktop and portable lesser laptop). Portability to LAN gaming events is going to be sweet.

Once I give 'er the 'ole gauntlet run, I'll do a little review up here for y'all if you'd be interested.

Amazing specs..and will have blazing performance too.

Apple is put to shame when it comes to PC hardware choices and the nice prices too. I'm looking forward to Windows 10.

Right now my Mac is in need of a new GPU. I can only use it at nighttime. During the daytime, the ultraviolet rays in the sunlight makes the GPU freakout.
