Bosch spark plugs

German engines love Bosch spark plugs and Bosch O2 sensors. Japanese cars love NGK and Denso.

But I have NGK platinum plugs in MB E430 and it ran great.

The only thing I'd run a Champ Plug in is a lawn mower, my experience with them in cars was horrible. GMC ran best on AC plugs, Ford on Autolite or Motorcraft, back in the day. Champs always sucked IMO. From what I'm reading I wouldn't hesitate to try NGK plugs in my 93 Aerostar. That is one mini van you don't want to have to re-do the plugs in because they didn't perform properly.

I have Champion Spark Plugs in my '89 VW Cabriolet and it runs better and passed the e-test with almost 0's. The Bosch made it hard to start hot and the numbers on the E-Test weren't as good.

I also run Champion plugs in the Jeep, my moms Status, grams Galant, weed whacker, push mower, lawn tractors, rotor tiller, snow blower and my Z28. Bosch has ran like [censored] in everything I put them in. Same with plug wires and O2 sensors.

Bosch in general represents the highest quality.
However, we won't use their spark plugs anymore because of iffy results.
Their new designs seem to be car specific, not to be used as general replacements.
And if you have a common waste spark ignition, they often don't work well in reverse.

Your VW comes with NGK double platinum.

I had a set of the Bosch twin tip platinum plugs installed in my Geo Prizm that has the 1.6 4A-FE engine. They ran great for 40,000 plus miles with no issue. On the flip side my sister had a Toyota Tercel with a similar engine and she too like mentioned in earlier posts had issues with rough idle, and rough running. Come to find out two of the four tips of the spark plugs fell out leaving her car running on two cylinders. My parents had the tips fall out of several of their spark plugs when they had them installed in their Ford Aerostar. From what I found on a ford forum, Ford ignition systems are effected by any multi-tip spark plugs due to the way the extra tip grounds the spark.

My 528e specs Bosch supers. I was having a stumble under load. I pulled the plugs and cylinders 4+5 were wet. I threw in some used plugs and the trouble cleared up. I checked my records, and the plugs had been in for 35 k miles. For grins, I bought some NGKs My old school E28s dont like anything but copper or silver plugs. Plats are prone to fouling.
Like many big outfits, Bosch is trading on a reputation, that is no longer deserved. Qualitiy on their electrics seems to have gotten spotty.

I have heard of Bosch products fail.Tim and,a couple of my longtime father's friends each got a Bosch recon Bosch cordless drill from their brother in law that was junk, the batteries went bad.I do know a Vetronix rep that was screwed by Bosch after taking over vetronix, they cut his commission and pay also forcing him into retirement. There is a spark plug philosophy,AC Delco for GMs,Autolites and Motorcraft for Fords and Champions for Chrysler products

I wouldn't buy the stealth marketing drivel from posters bashing Bosch here. My bet is that some of these folks are marketing folks for NGK.

I've used Bosch OEM parts in my various VWs for over 20 years now and never once had an issue.

I will say that you should replace your parts with the OEM brand for your car.

I work in the food industry and not for NGK. I'm just a fan of NGK / Champion as they make reliable products IMO, which I haven't had the same experience with Bosch...

As far as I'm concerned Bosch can be renamed: Botched!

NGKs are made in Japan and Champions are made in the USA.Some of the AC Delco platnuim plugs are made in Japan or France. Also take the time to check the gaps on them, the gaps crush in the box.Bosch also kept ABS info on Chrysler products hush hush. The delaer had to call Bosch for the parts and Bosch wanted the old parts for a core.
