Boeing machinists strike

It will be interesting to see how this plays out with the back orders and the 787 about to come on line.

At one time, the scientists and engineers in Wichita had a union at the MIlitary division but it was voted out a few years ago when a new CEO came to "clean-up" or improve the bottom line. They also layed off high paying senior engineers to improve the bottom line.

I believe the IAM also represents the Machinists at the Wichita operations that Spirit Aerosystems purchased from Boeing.

Yeah, I was saddened to hear that news this a.m.

It will probably have a more negative effect on the 787 deliveries than it will on the revised Air Force tanker RFP and new bidding.

I did not read the details as to what the union was asking for (other than the fact one union negotiator commented in the WSJ that Boeing had made billions of dollars to date and the workers should share in a cut of those dollars), but what Boeing offered seemed to be reasonable.

For the record, I don't work for Boeing or its's subsidiaries, nor do I belong to a union. I also have not seen specifics on the union's request.

The pain will likely be short term for Boeing, barring a really long strike.

Thank goodness somebody at Boeing has a backbone.

That company as a whole has cow-towed to more abuse than they should. Between the 2001 loss of the joint strike fighter contract which should have been theirs as they were the only contender with a flying prototype. Or the more recent loss of the tanker contract that is at least back in play now.

I know people at Boing (non-union). And that company as a whole needs to play some hard ball. The local site will see losses soon and it is not due to costs or quality. Boeing contracts are being passed over for political or buddy-buddy or high-school-[censored] reasons. Otherwise, Boeing would be the manufacturer of choice.

The 787 delays are due to the aforementioned problems, then poor planning. These lines should/would have been running at higher capacity if it had not been for the contracts Boeing was cheated out of.

This is just managing upwards.
