My friend's brother has recently become sort of a ricer. He has done useless cosmetic upgrades to his 2000 Civic. Nothing like hood scoops, or a body kit. Things like lights, stickers, etc. Anyway, I always use to tell him how idiotic he was when he would rev it up out of his driveway to red line in 20 degree weather on a cold start. He basically beat the ever loving snot out of it.

His attitude was Hondas are indestructible. His 2nd gear is currently messed up. He has to shift from first to second, put it in neutrla, rev it up and shift into 3rd or something weird. Anyway, he recently put a new clutch in it from destroying the previous one. Anyway, a new clutch, a transmission needing replacement and this past weekend he blew the engine. It now has a rod knock. He has a new engine he got for $500 in his garage pulled from the same car in a junkyard. Also waiting for a new tranny.

108k miles on the odomoter and he already killed the transmission and engine. I don't feel bad for him...

like my cousins used to always complain about being unlucky enough to always find the weak diffs...they never got it.

You should see all the S60R's (AWD 300HP)at my dealer. The three biggies are tires, brakes and clutches. There are a lot of cars that are not getting 10,000 miles out if any of the above. I have seen clutches gone in 3K-6K miles. Tires are an absolute joke 15K miles are about the most anyone is getting out of a set of them.
Two blown motors from owners that chipped them and wanted to see just how much power they could handle. Well those 3 inch holes in the side of the block made by broken rods answered the question. All aluminum 5 cylinder engines don't come cheap at $14,000 plus labor.
Nice car but the people that own them are beating the snot out of them. You couldn't get me to buy one used unless it was an absolute steal.

I have to laugh about the indestructible part. I have owned three Hondas all heavily autocrossed and driven. You either learn to drive smooth or start replacing everything there is.

i have owned 5 honda products. if properly maintained, they can last a long time. i let the oil get low in a 90 hatchback that i had and i lost compression on #3 cylinder. not having any money, i had to drive it around on a cylinder with 20 psi of compression. once you got it up to speed on the highway, you could hardly notice. let off the gas at 50 and it was okay for a few seconds and then BOOM! a big fireball came out of the exhaust. kinda fun.

Sounds like a great anti tailgating device

woohoo, sounds like i have that to look forward to. actually the owner of mine was an older real estate agent. i get to beat on it now.

I made a mistake. It's a 2001 Civic (7th generation) not that it really matters.

Not a Honda fan here, but have you seen the "Honda Civic Death" Youtube video?? That engine just wouldn't die. I wish I knew how to post the link. I highly reccomend watching it.

Or maybe its a sign that honda will go to a 0W0 oil in its future.
