Blood shortage question

Moderators, I apologize beforehand. I’m wondering what would/could happen if there happens to be a plasma, blood or platelet shortage or emergency. No, I did not Google this. I do donate when I can and I donate platelets. Thank You all in advance.
 
Sure there would be incentives for people to provide the materials .
Plasma centers currently offer $600/month for 'donors'.
So $$$ gets the vital fluids flowing.
 
I'm almost a month over on when I could have last donated - need to get over there. Thanks for the reminder.

No financial incentives in Canada - they kick you out with a bottle of water and a bag of chips after a short mandatory rest period.

The parking is free though.
 
I think the demand for blood plasma has gone down in recent months, why i say that is because the amount that they are paying for blood plasma donations has gone down in recent months.

Can you imagine what is currently charged by the hospitals and billed to patients or insurance companies. I actually seen a figure of $900 for one pint of whole blood (A+) back in 2003.
