Just need to know if it's OK to blend dino and synthetic oils. I have a 1970 Mopar big block engine with a flat tappet cam. I'm in hopes of blending Valvoline 10W30 full synthetic with Valvoline 15W40 Premium Blue diesel oil...half and half. I'm looking for a good quality oil with zinc and moly. 15W40 is too heavy for what I want, and 10W30 oils are not such a great oil for my engine. Is it OK to mix these two oils? Opinions please.

In order of cost consider the following:

Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 ($14.00 Gal @ WalMart). Costco might carry it seeing your on the west coast.

Also you might consider contacting a local Amsoil Dealer.
Amsoil HDD 5w30 HDEO would likely do what you want.

Also you could just order Redline HPMO 10w30.

Can anyone tell me if it's OK to blend full synthetic and dino oil?

I've been reading about motor oils, here and all over the web, that I have data overflow!

Look in the phone book under oil jobbers or lubrication for a Chevron oil distributer .I get 10w30 delo 400 there. Also check up on the Valvoline racing oil I am not sure about the additive levels .You can mix with out any problem. I would hunt down the Delo rather than the syn. oil mix .The higher additive levels are what is needed.

Call up the Valvoline tech line (1-800-TEAM-VAL) and ask them for recommendations. They know how their oils are blended and what to expect from your blend.

Thanks to everyone's replies. This is the most help I've had in all my searches for the best oil to run.
