I go an oil change today. I usually go with Mobil 1 fully synthetic or Valvoline on my 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali. The guy at the shop said they use BG Oil and recommended it highly. He told me that it is a Mobil 1 base with an additive. Can someone confirm:

a) Is BG Oil (Synthetic 0w30) as good as Mobil 1 or Valvoline?
b) Is the additive they add with it (which was free) a good thing?

It is being advertised as

"BG Hi-L0W30 is a revolutionary synthetic engine oil utilizing the most shear stable polymer technology available. Designed for passenger cars, vans and light trucks, BG Hi-L0W30 flows immediately to lubricate vital engine components, even at temperatures as low as 50 degrees below zero. It is an excellent product for arctic conditions. Provides long drain life of 15,000 mile"

No, BG is not Mobil1 base stocks.

The additive is "MOA" (Motor Oil Additive). I used to put this stuff in cars, but we no longer use this product. I don't trust it.

Also, their synthetic oil supposedly come "preloaded" with that additive.

I've seen how they advertise it. But can you comment on personal experiences with its quality of "what do the experts say about it" vs some of the more commonly known brands like Mobil 1. Is it true that BG Sythetics is Mobil 1 stock?

I know how they advertise, but is the oil any good? The full synthetic?

I don't know if it is any good. I would personally run it for 5000 miles and get a UOA to see if the oil is any good based on your driving. KLowD9x doesn't trust the product, he might be able to elaborate on the reasons for his distrust.

BG makes some good products. And their oil is probably fine. That said, its probably MORE expensive than say M1 or PP etc... might as well go with a proven brand unless you WANT to test it..
