Best way to remove window tint?

Thread bump.

Rear window in my Camry was opaque--it was like looking out a bathroom window. I spent two hours scraping last night 'cuz I didn't think to read about how to do the job first... oops. Anyhow, isopropyl alcohol doesn't seem to cut the glue residue really well--is water really what is required to finish up the job? Would regular glass cleaner do, since many contain ammonia? I'd prefer not to use a cleaner that is going to make the car smell for days.

Does that glue ever stink...

FWIW I had a tint shop remove the tint (2010 Mustang) on all 5 windows for 100 bucks. That included the rear defroster window. Your S-10 will be a good bit less than my Mustang to do.

A local shop charged me about the same for my 2 Series; it was worth it to me not to have to fool with it.

I did have to chuckle at that one.

I haven't hit it with Windex yet. I suppose $100 would have been "faster", but eh, it's my beater. It's already 100% better than what it was, it's now to the point where I can use the window. Whatever residue is left can stay right where it is.

I have used Simple Green and a razor blade to remove window tint from a car. It worked very well, and made the process a lot easier than I anticipated.
