Best way to get to 50,000 miles? Different than 100,000?

as a used car buyer, i would always ask new cars buyers to treat their cars with future owners in mind.

I can't afford new- so instead, I try to get incredable deals on used.

example: my most recent purchase, a 2001 susuki swift, automatic, 50,000 miles on it, for only $2500 out the door. I have no idea how the previous owners treated it but I can only hope for the best- i've started this thing on a diet of Mobil 1 EP 15k and K&N oil filter in hopes of doing extended drains and keeping this thing running for at least another 200k.

Holy cr@p, what a provocative topic! I can't believe you guys are making him shop for and change his own oil, when he should be chilling at the beach.

take her to the Honda dealer where you bought her.
they'll treat you right. $5 oil and $12 filters and every service and warranty item taken care of. they even put on a new drain plug gasket for $2.85 parts plus labor. don't forget that $50 interior cabin air HEPA air filter replacement.
wife's Acura costs her $400 every time she takes it in, must be only number the dealer's cash register has in it.

why not use mobil 5w30 EP and go for 15000 miles, that would be almost 2 years by the way you drive,i know you pay more to start but is also less work

Forget the "synthetic" verbage. Havoline and Motorcraft use the same base oils(GII & GIII). Pick one and use it for as long as you have the car. I buy used cars too, but in 50,000 miles it simply isn't going to make a difference in the life of the car.

Use an oil that meets the owner's manual specifications. Change it according to the OLM and manual. And PLEASE, PLEASE do contact me when you're about to trade it in. I promise to give you more for it than the dealer will!

I agree with the guys that say use a decent dino and change in accordance with MFG's recommendations.

Somebody will run your ridgeline to 3 or 400k miles after you sell it....don't screw over the next guy by neglecting the service. Sure it's just the dealer you're returning it to, but he's going to sell it to someone who probably worked pretty hard for the money to buy it. It's easy to set your ridgeline up for a long service life..

Nice truck by the way!

personally, if i were in your shoes id use whatever dino is on sale, as long as its a brand i'm familiar with. as far as the oil filter goes, i'd probably just use a regular white purolator and run a 5,000mi oci

This is directly related to bean burrito intake.

and the brocolli, and the soda spill intervals, and the coffee spill intervals, and the back seat noughty time, and accidentally leaving the window down while driving past a city sprinkler system operating on non-potable water, and fast food greace, AHHHHHHHHHHHH.....

i think i better go buy new seats. lol.

No truer words have ever been spoken.

IMHO: Nothing wrong with using inexpensive oil and filters as long as they have the API donut and changing the oil when it's due.

Again, the car manufacture doesn't care how hard someone works for the money .

Irv Gordon, who has driven over 2.3 million miles in his Volvo has spent a lot of time sitting in a car. At an average speed of 40mph, he's spent 6.5 years in his car in the last 39 years(it's a '66 Volvo he bought new) or 17% of the time.
