Best way to cook fresh asparagus?

Well,it was a success!! I put the asparagus directly over the fire,basted it with melted butter,and kept turning it until all surfaces were golden brown. Absolutely melted in your mouth!

You'll never go back to canned...

(although Aldi have a properly pickled asparagus with peppercorns that is fine).

Do try it poached, on toast with butter, pepper and salt
