Best Roads to Drive in America?

I like to drive the old roads that got more or less replaced by interstates.

For example, Us 67 and US 70 in Arkanasas. Most of both roads are still signed, but there's a few old alignments you can follow.

I've never driven Old 66 though. I sure hope to someday.

A few drives that stand out in my memory:

US 101 on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington.

US 2 across northern Montana.

Utah 128 (like Rhymingmechanic said above) & US 163 south to Monument Valley at the UT AZ border.

NM 4 & 126 from Los Alamos to Cuba, New Mexico. (Be careful on that trip though, parts of NM 126 aren't paved. I never dreamed a State Route could be a dirt road!)

BTW, great topic.

The road (Calif SR 178) in my original post is now used in a commercial!

It's the new GMC truck spot, on TV now, with the truck towing 3 extra-large pipes, pulling out to pass a string of big-rigs. I remember them filiming that over a year ago. They only shot footage on the 4 lane, leaving out the best parts on the 14-mile two lane twisties along the river's edge. That's Lake Isabella in the background in the final shot.

A couple short but scenic ones: Utah 128 from I-70 to Moab (and just about any other road in that area). US 14A between Lovell and Burgess Junction, WY--11% grades and about a mile climb/drop in something like 11 miles. Chief Joseph Highway from Cody to the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone is good.

I had the absolute pleasure of riding those roads on my motorsickle a few years ago (Arches National Park is awesome). The stretch of I70 between Green River and Salina is barren for interstate (note the 'Get Fuel Now' signs) but OK. I rode that stretch at oh dark-thrity and passed maybe 10 vehicles in 100 miles. Wyoming has a lot of great roads: US 16 between Ten Sleep and Buffalo, US 20 between Shoshoni and Thermopolis, State 28 through South Pass. Fun stuff.

Pulaski skyway, either direction, NJ rt 3 east from clifton to seacaucus, interstate 80 west from parsippany out to Stroudsburg, PA.

None are all that fun of drives, but all give you some beautiful views of one of the most important areas in the world.

I try to avoid those roads at all costs... every time I use them I end up shutting my engine off and sitting because they are just stopped.

Definately none in NE Ohio. Results of driving here over time on your vehicles no matter how well you take care of them:
