Just got 4 new Goodyear Advantage Outlast at Wallymart. 350 installed after tax and fees.
My ride seemed hard so I checked Ft L 40 Ft R 34 Right rear 40 R Left Rear 34??
2 guys and 2 machines :)
I've always used 34-36 but my door says 30. Does that seem low?

The door is normally in the ballpark for a nice ride and decent handling, but can be fine tuned for the exact tires and your driving preferences.

Start with the door numbers and make slight adjustments from there.

30 psi is WAY to low. Good luck keeping any form of control in an accident avoidance or stop with 30 psi. 30 psi would be my suggestion for grandpa for in-town driving in a small town in Texas were he never went over 30 mph and drove 300 miles a year. 😉. Lowest starting point would be 35 psi cold. Myself, I would put in 35 rear 37 front.

To all of you, why does 30 seem low? Please explain in detail how you determined the door number recomended by the manufacturer isn't a good place to start.
In my experience, when manufacturers recommend lower pressures like that, they look flat and ride around on their sidewalls, after a quick turn around a corner you can see where the sidewall was on the ground.

If you don't put anyone in the back seats, or load the trunk with sales junk, I would run 2 psi less back there.
Try 33 front/ 31 rear "cold" if the tires are appropriately sized. Being FWD there is a large weight bias on the front.
Make sure you tire gauge is good, when old pencils wear out you can get a large variation. Also issue with poor sealing with dial type units.
I re-check 3 times .

Again, what facts and details do you have about his model and year of Sonata to say 30 is too low?

"Looking flat" on other vehicles is irrelevant.

Our fleet of company vehicles is split between Sonatas and Fusions. I've had three fusions, tire and wheel size has been different on all three, pressure was different on one.

I drive a tremendous number of miles for work, I check and adjust tire pressure frequently, rarely do I need to venture far from the door numbers to dial it in.

On vehicles where you change tire type and/or size, then the pressure difference may be greater.

My Sonata called for 33 psi, so I went 3-4 psi above.

Sorry, I wasn’t aware you were such an extreme expert.

my both cars call for 33psi; Costco does them at 35-36psi; I do not object it; however if they do 30psi I would

This is common, rarely does any tire store check the door sticker for the correct pressure, or ask. They just pump them up to standard spec, or the employees own idea of what it should be.

generally it does not hurt to have extra air in tires; on the other hand, if its too low on air it may be disadvantageous to the ride

TPMS on Camrys is too sensitive. Calls for 35 all around. Lose 3 psi and you'd think the car was gonna explode. Finally got mad and boosted psi to 40 to shut darn things off.
