What would you recommend for a Model A Ford with
apparently weak compression, driven only in warm weather?

thanks in advance

Well now, there's a question we don't see here very often! I am absolutely NOT any form of expert about this car or its engine, but I do recall reading an article maybe 6-8 years ago where an owner used Mobil-1 15w-50 in one.

What condition is the engine in (besides the compression issue)? What oils have been used to date, or at least recently? Just a thought, but if the thing has been fed old fashioned non-detergent oils for some time, it would probably be smart to stay with one of those, and change very often.

Hi,
Snowflaque - A trip back in time. I have built many a Model A and B engine along with the odd Chrysler 4 and Essex 4 and etc.

I suggest that you use a good SAE30 or SAE40 lubricant of which I am sure there are some around especially as HDEOs

Many early engines depend on oil scoops, and splash lubrication and may have very little oil pressure as normal - some Chevs IIRC had around 15psi!

My Mother learn't to drive in a Model T and was an expert on smooth gearshifts!

Best wishes - keep the oldies alive!!!
