New here love the site, thank you to everyone that has posted info and helped guys like me try to make an informed choice. I live in Alberta Canada, hot summers and very cold winters -20C on a regular basis. I drive a 2008 ranger fx4 with the 4.0 SOHC v6, no mods except k&N air filter. I drive mostly city with the odd highway thrown in for good measure. I am wondering if i should use the pp 5w30 or the Castrol Edge 5w30, i read that the edge has a pretty nice add package but the pp is about $9-10 cheaper for the 5L jug, would both oils do the same job for me or am i splitting hairs here, oil is change every 6000km with a wix filter. Thank you for any advice, sounds lame but this can be overwelming to newbies. Thanks again.

Which bottle looks better to you? I think the PP bottle is better looking. from information I can find PP has a lower pour point. ether would do the job I say. Castrol might smell better though haha

lol thanks, I guess it really does come down to that, I'm not laying down on a 1/4 mile and not hauling a b-train up the rockies lol, i will go with the better deal. Thanks again.

Looks like a rather short OCI for such great oils.. almost a waste, given the fact that with (i'm guessing) a larger sump compared to my TDi's (both 4L) you should be able to use it longer.
I know i live in a place with a very mild climate (8ºCelsius to 40ºCelsius) but even so, 6000km is to me, way to short.. Edge on my engines is recommended for as long as 30.000kn OCI's either by Audi or Skoda.

This is not the same Edge as sold in NA. Euro Edge is very good the NA version is very poor in comparison and truly not worthy of the name.

One of my favourite go too oils in Europe and at the same time my least favourite product in NA.
PP over the NA Edge version any day.

Yep, vote with your wallet. While Edge with Syntec can be had on some decent rollbacks, it seems that PP is rolled back more regularly up here. The Edge with Titanium is way too expensive for my tastes, and if Alberta is anything like Saskatchewan, you can't find any PU with which to compare it.

Oh.. i was not aware of that, my bad.
But i assume Pennzoil Platinum is of similar quality of its Shell sibling, thus making it the best option

Another alternate choice would be Petro Canada supreme synthetic 0w30. I'd go out on a limb and say I'm not sure how you could possibly beat that oil for your climate and needs. It's also a good price from most dealers.

A 0w30 of any brand would be sweet if you were able to find it up there. you could always order it from Amsoil if you couldn't find it on a store shelf anywhere. or im sure you could buy some 0w30 mobil 1 or something like that on amazon.com. or the other 0w30's mentioned above, which i just noticed.
