Hello,

It has come time to purchase a new battery for my 1990 toyota corolla diesel JDM chassis code:. I live in central america where it mostly never gets colder than 60 F and average temp year round hovers around 94 F- very warm climate. Another thing to consider this would go into a diesel engine and the roads here have potholes galore so a lot of vibration for the battery. I have various options on the table:

LTH 31-P-750 AR
https://www.lth.com.mx/productos/especificaciones-técnicas/170039
750 CCA Basically SLA maintantence free battery. dont know what makes them call it heavy duty?

LTH 27F 810
https://www.lth.com.mx/productos/especificaciones-técnicas/172006
810 CCA interesting because this lead acid battery has little removable lids on battery top to check electrolyte levels and fill up with distilled water.

Optima 34/78 Red Top
https://www.pricesmart.com/site/ni/es/pagina-producto/891818
720 CCA AGM battery very resistant to vibration which i mentioned plays a factor in this vehicles application. Dont know if AGMs resist heat welll perhaps i can make a heat shield with somekind of aluminum foil buble wrap for the battery in the engine compartment for heat.

Interstate 27F
https://www.interstatebatteries.com/products/mtp-27f
710 CCA lead acid tech

Platin EFB 850
https://www.ozon.ru/product/akkumul...225-702916572/?oos_search=false&sh=NU3d9ma4LQ
850 CCA enhanced flooded battery EFB tech supposedly for stop and start cars made in turkey.

I’d never buy an Optima (any color top). I you do have an issue because heat and vibration are a batteries worst enemy. If you want an AGM I suggest another supplier.

Heat + Vibration = Short Battery Life. And I doubt that spending more will improve things very much. At least not enough to extract any added value. Many of these high end batteries cost well over double what a conventional lead / acid battery does.

And you have no guarantee they will last twice as long. I've lived 32 years in the desert. And I have found that spending more rarely equates to a longer lasting battery.

In the sub zero freezing cold there are ways to heat your battery. But there are no good ways to keep one cool under a broiling hood in extreme hot weather.

CAT 175-4360

710 CCA Specifically mentions high resistance to vibration which I like. i know cat doesnt make their batteries, heard east penn, deka or bright power makes their batteries. this cat battery got made in the USA making it the only battery on the list to get made in the usa as the others get made mostly in mexico- LTH, interstate and the platin gets made in Turkey.

upon further research the lth 750 CCA also supposedly has high resistance to vibration.

i find myself leaning towards the cat and the lth 750 as i heard optima quality really tanked when they started production in mexico.

With a car that can apparently accept any size battery (even a 31?!), I'd survive on used ones. The 31 is usually used on big trucks (albeit in a parallel pair or triple) so even a rather degraded 31 should have no problem starting a small 3 cylinder diesel in a warm climate.

AGM battery might be better than wet batteries sloshing around on rough roads.
I have a Diehard AGM in both my vehicles, One is 6 years old and the other is 5 years old. Just replaced the 5 yo last night because it was starting to lose capacity. The 6 yo cranks my Sienna just as fast as when it was new and still tests ok.

AGM batteries are vibration resistant, so, get an AGM. Optimas are OK in my experience.

Ideally it would be something like an OEM battery like the kind typically installed in Japan. They tend to be lower output rated using fewer and thicker plates, which is supposed to be better in hot climates. That shouldn't be an issue in a warm climate like Central America. And also something that can be topped off. I rather like screw tops, but even triple-gang tops should be fine even though there's usually no fill line. Just use a flashlight and don't overfill.

I bought a Walmart Everstart H7 AGM last August, it went bad last week (battery dead @ 2 months), needed a replacement for 4 year warranty but the AGM H7 is out of stock on all of Walmarts in Houston., shipment of supplies maybe next week. 😩
May I ask why did you prefer the Diehard AGMs? It is my understanding that they are made by Clarios (Johnsons Control) same as Walmart's Everstart which is a lot cheaper. I think the Diehard is better than Everstart in comparison or did I got a defective AGM. Thanks
