Hi All,

I have plans to use a premium oil filter and oil..

However, I'm not finding much information on air filters.

Can someone recommend a top brand filter that will fit a 99' Jeep/6 CYL.

I plan to use PureOne oil filters..but I notice they don't have a air filter that matches the Jeep.

So please toss me some ideas, point me in right direction of some brands/lines that I can research.

WIX filters

does the wix say what efficiency rating it is and at what micron?

Do they offer a paper element thats lightly oiled like fram tough guard or Purolator pureone?

why is the Wix any better then a Fram air filter or purolator classic air filter?

Im just wondering because I have the same jeep but I like to know why wix is the best?

BTW, Purolator or fram does not offer a PureOne or toughguard for our jeeps.

There are a lot of good air filters at AA, AZ, Walmart, etc. Just make sure you maintain it and replace every 15K-20K miles or so. Possibly more often if driving in very dusty conditions.

No need to change the air filter based on mileage. You don't want to throw away a good filter and you don't want to run one that is overly restricted.
I have a Wix filter minder on my Honda S2000 because I had one on my truck for 30 years(last one '03 KW T-2000). I like to know when the air filter gets to restrictive and this tells me when that is regardless of the miles on the air filter. The only way to use this minder is to get out on the road and go for a WOT romp. I took some pic's of where I mounted it on my car and it reads 8" of vacuum with a air filter that has about 8k miles on it. I'll change the filter when it reads 15 to 20"(H2O) of vacuum, I might even modify the air cleaner box to except a longer air filter so it will have lower restriction for a longer time.

I got the gauge at Summit for $14

Its hard to base replacement on mileage but sometimes it is cheap insurance.

The Wix filter minder sounds like a good idea if it really works. Easy to install? $14? Just me, but I think I would just buy a few extra air filters ...

Just wanted to update, when I got the Jeep home the PO never changed the air filter, the foam was corroded, dirty filter, etc.

I had to replace it ASAP (my WIX didn't get in yet). I went to Oreilly's and they did not have a WIX in stock I had to get something so I went with what they had in stock for the Jeep temporarily - microguard air filter.

Microguard did not fit perfectly, but the guys used it.

Before I did microguard, I called Jeep dealer, for an OEM.

While the dude was looking, I asked I was looking at a lot of filters, WIX, etc - I don't want to do K&N, what do you think of WIX compared to OEM.

The Chrysler Jeep Dodge parts guy recommended a WIX over the OEM part.

We're WIX #46081.

cool, where did you order your filter from? its been a year/14k miles since i have put in my fram air filter. Ill try a wix this time around, probably in the spring. I did check my fram about 2k miles ago and it looked pretty good so i banged it off lightly and re-installed it.

I ordered 2 filters off amazon for $30 with free ground shipping.
They'll be here Wed, I'll update once they come in. I'm curious to see if I'll run into the size issue again.

I just wanted to confirm.

I got the WIX in today and fit PERFECTLY.

That microguard took like 2 guys to be able to pop in and to force those clamps back on the filter lid.

And microguard had some type of accordion action going on in there.

The build quality itself of the WIX was more sturdier, fit perfectly, lid closed easily.

Thanks for the update! Im going to have to try one out sooner or later!

Im impressed with all the research you have been doing between wranglerforum and BITOG, if people took half as much time and effort to learn about their machine as you then world would be a better place!
