What would you recommend as the best 5w40 oil available in Europe? I would like some PAO or Ester 5w40 synthetic.

I had used Motul 300V 5w40, but it is a bit expensive and I am not sure if it can be used in a daily driver.

Now I bought a used car that has used Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 for all its life (190 000km), but I don't hear anything good about this oil on this server.

First I thought that I will go with Motul 8100 X-cess 5w40, but as I am reading threads on this server, I see that this is also not PAO/ester oil, so now I'm confused.

Any suggetions on some 5w40 PAO oil?

Thank you all

Petrv,

Try posting in the "GC & Euro/Import Oils" forum. You might have a better chance getting answers there.

Pentosin and Lubro-Moly come to mind as possible choices.

You should check out the GTX Magnatec 5W-40 or the Castrol Enduron Plus SAE 5W-40 which are both available in the Czech. The Magnatec is a semi synthetic and the Enduron Plus is a full synthetic.

Also check out the SYNTHOIL HIGH TECH 5 W-40, TOP TEC 4100 5 W-40 and the LEICHTLAUF HC 7 5 W-40. The High Tech is a full synthetic and the other 2 are Hydro Cracked.

If you are ever in Germany you can pick up some Pentosynth 5W-40 which is another good oil.

I've used Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 before. No problems with that oil. At that price I prefer Mobil1 0W-40 or Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40.

Mobil Synt S 5w40 is any good?

Specs:
SAE 5W/40, API SL/SJ/CF, ACEA A3-98/B3-98, B4-98, API EC, VW 502.00, 505.00, BMW LL-98, OPEL GM-LL-B-025, PORSCHE, MB 229.3

Petr,
One reason you may not have heard much about Shell Helix 5W-40 on this board is that in the U.S. it is available only through Ferrari dealerships and at whatever price they want to charge. And as far as I can tell most members of BITOG are North Americans, so we don't have much exposure to the oil. I have an old Ferrari that I bought right after it had been serviced and it had the Shell 5W-40. I am on my second oil change since then and have been using M1 0W-40 since the Shell 5W-40 is not available on my island. I can't tell any difference in the seat of my pants or from the car's oil pressure and oil temperature guages between the two oils. And the viscosities at 40 and 100 deg C are similar, with the M1 being just a bit "thicker." I expect the HTHS is about the same at 3.6, too.

Na Zdravje!
Mark

(I'm posting this for anyone who lives where M1 T&SUV 5W-40 is sold.)

I have nine oil reports now. Two were on the T&SUV. By a small margin, trying to correct for weather, usage, etc., these two reports were worse than those with M1EP, or M1EP + Delo 400.

My results only.
05 Toyota 4L V6.
