Walmart EverStart Maxx, 3/5 year full/pro rata warranty, ~$94 for 24F. Johnson Controls made here, East Penn made some other places. Either way, gets the job done. Good value.

I've run many JCI batteries. While they perform well, I don't like their tendency to grow green fuzz.

East Penn is supposed to be better at this.

I've noticed this as well.

Put a Sams Club Duracell in my F150 this year. Group 65, but it was on sale and was cheaper with a better warranty than anybody else in town. I forget who makes them, though. Have been running a OE-replacement Interstate in the MIL Nissan for a couple years now without any problems, surprisingly.

I know they're higher cost, but what about going to AGM type batteries ? Are they better ?

The Walmart MAXX is typically a very good battery. Good price, easy to get a replacement 7 days a week. Hopefully still made by JCI. Look at the date code.

+1 for AGM batteries. Ive had much better luck with them over lead-acid. One thing ive noticed to is they tend to have a higher "at rest" volltage than lead-acid. Most of my agm batteries are between 13.5-14 Volts after charging at rest with nothing connected.

The local Federated parts chain gave me a price of $88 for a 24F AGM. I seem to recall it was a DEKA (East Penn) branded battery too.

How long did you let it rest? I have an 11 year old AGM battery and after charging, it was at 12.7 volts, but after about 10-20 minutes at rest, it was down to 12.5 volts. According to this state of charge chart, the maximum voltage on a regular lead acid battery is about 12.7 volts. It sounds like you still had the charger connected as that's a standard charger voltage.

I had a small fleet of trucks and cars for my business.

I had one used Wal-Mart MAXX and it was terrific, 3 others not so. I exchanged all of them under warranty and had no problem with Wal-Mart.

I had an Interstate dealer as a client. I use to buy all Interstate batteries from him at garage or cheaper price. I was never happy with them.

It always seemed to be JCI batteries which also made Interstate at the time.

I know get 6-18 month used batteries from a tow truck operator for $25.

I definitely didnt have the charger hooked up. I will say it was probably only 2-3 min after i unhooked it though. It was a pretty large Exide AGM battery for my truck. My charger charges around 14.5 volts and it never charges higher than 14.9. My charger brand is Associated Equipment.

Sam's Club sells the Duracell batteries and they are made by East Penn. Periodically maybe four times a year they have a $20 off promotion. I got a Group 35 over the summer for $84. They are a three year, free replacement battery. Sam's will never hassle you about returns either. Duracell are really good batteries; they are strong. Batteries Plus sells Duracell Ultra brand the same thing, also East Penn.

East Penn batteries are better than Johnson Control batteries. All my new battery purchases are at Sams and not Costco. The Costo Interstate (by Johnson Controls) have a slightly better warranty but do not last. Yes they grow the green fuzz on the terminal and get weak. Same with the EverStart from Walmart.

Actually East Penn in my area and some stores north of me... Even better than JC. Made here. Quality battery too.

At Walmart... The group 24f size sells fast typically. So you will likely get a real fresh battery there...

And the Valuepower group 24f is the 624mf battery... Weighs 41 pounds... 115 minute reserve.. great value at $49.88.... and it has 2 yr free replacement warranty through O Reilly's and a 3 year free replacement warranty through Federated Auto...
