have battery problems, my charger doesn't seem to work. looking around, found a Dynacharge wheeled dy-1420 (says by schumaker) at AAP for $79.99. I think dow47 or similar is $30 off $75, rarely found in store but free shipping over $75 ACTUAL, so the actual $50 dynacharge will need to beef up to actual $75 for free ship. Anyway, amazon etc. seem to run this all over $100 actual. So $50 seems good, but big box like used car lots use unit is not microprocessor, high tech, etc. STILL, seems interesting. Comments?

no matter how good charger is, if the battery is no good, then then it's not gonna hold a charge. Costco sells the battery tender. If it works keep it. If it doesn't return it anytime, that simple. Most retailers don't have much of a return policy if you open the product, use it and try and return it.

I use the Optimate 6 ampmatic. It is fully auto/microprocessor and will charge AGM as well. It revived a dead batt in a friends veh that sat for a whole year. I think I paid $100 at Amazon.

I use Battery Tenders and BatteryMinder's.
Like the staging of smart chargers/maintainers compared to old school stuff I used to have.
I've had one battery last almost 3 months, another less than a year. Sometimes I guess a bad battery gets through OTC.

Some of the maintainers are fairly simply and some more complicated.

I've got an older Schumacher SEM-1562A as well as the newer SEM-1562A-CA. The older one seems to be simpler in design, with a heavy linear switching power supply (I can feel the weight) and a charging circuit that doesn't care a whit about what happened. I plug it in - it charges until it senses the battery is full. It has no memory of what just transpired.

Now the newer one is microprocessor controlled with some funky algorithm. It doesn't actually start charging until a few seconds of seeing what's up. There are reports that they automatically shut off after 24 continuous hours of trying to charge a battery. It will display a fault if connected the wrong way or shorted (I've seen this). It also weighs very little and feels like there's a switching power supply by the noise. I suspect that once fully topped off, it's designed to only check periodically to avoid constant discharge and recharge cycles. If it's fully charged and I remove the clamps, it's still flashing like it's fully charged. I suspect that it will take time before it actually monitors the charge state.

I have a Batt Tender and a Batt minder. I really like the concept. I also have a cheap older Schumacker stander charger.
I only use it if a battery got really drained. In that case it needs a boost.
Otherwise I use the little smart chargers.

I have a schu SNS-1500... great charger.
Go hit AAP for a new battery and a charger. get those discount codes. I do not like the small amp tender deals. I have had many sealed, plug in and forget on board chargers, from my fishing boats... All are waste... all hype.
I'm gonna hit AAP for a new battery next few days.
