I haven't seen much said here about Baldwin Filters. They are a little harder to find but are supposed to be of very high quality and are reasonably priced. Anyone have any experience with Baldwin?

A search of the oil filter forum will reveal a wealth of knowledge & opinions on these filters.

I've been using them for a couple of years now and have no complaints at all. They are very solidly built. I purchase them from a company called Associated Diesel over the Internet so I don't have to go hunting for them.

They can be avilable from Peterbilt and Kenworth dealers.

You can always call them and ask who the local distributor is..the numbers in the sticky thread at the top..

I have been using them for several years now and found them to be the best filter made, today. For my 1972 MGB, it calls for a B243, and through working with the Baldwin Engineers, discovered and use a B2HPG filter which is ceramic, and filters at 5 microns, rather than the 20 to 40 microns. It is also a larger filter, which gives me a great capacity. Baldwin Filter also ownes Hastings Filter, and makes the filters for Amzoil. Baldwin is noted as the Heavy Duty Filter, and that they are - they also product racing filters.

I run only Fleetguard or Baldwin filters in my truck and have noticed that Baldwin and Donaldson are made in the same building. All are excellent filter choices. Check out Baldwinfilters.com and they have an excellent cross reference guide with specs. and pictures of the filters. Very informative.

As soon as I finished sending the reply I new I screwed up. Hastings and Baldwin are one and Donaldson is not related to them. Sorry for the mix-up. I am going to try a Donaldson extended drain oil filter though. They look really good.

Baldwin tested extremely well in one of the oil filter studies.

If I'm not mistaken, the "gap" that someone mentioned here is actually a flare in the tube diameter. I haven't seen this for myself but it was mentioned elsewhere.

In addition the sources already mentioned, they're available through Acklands-Grainger.

I use the B2 for various Jeep engines but some G.M. models of Baldwin are "short-tubed" and I will not use them. There is a gap in the inner tube design (take one apart)and the media holds the inner filter from crushing down on itself...not too impressed. The B2 has the full center tube and baseplate by-pass that I prefer and I use this model but for the other vehicles I service I use Napa Gold oil filters....no surprises with the Napa Gold.
