This is probably the best advice I have seen in this thread, I do not know much about SEAFOAM, but since your Valvetrain is gunked up, it can only help.

If you wanted faster results I would say you could use Kreen.

MMO has the advantage in that it is cheaper, and if you have the time the product will work, you can also get it at just about any parts store.

So, in conclusion:

1) Fast Results = Kreen
2) Moderate results = MMO
3) Pennzoil Ultra or Pennzoil Platinum may get you results but it will probably take you longer.

I agree with some of the gist here. I like addguy's advice.

Otherwise, I believe using Rotella T5 10w30(it is the summer so now or ne...maybe later

), along with MMO during the winter is a great combination.

I personally do not think it is worth the potential risks to go the Kreen route in this particular scenario/application.

Looks like very good advice to me..

Ok well it looks like kreen and autorx are out of the question due to cost. Right now I'm running gtx hm with half a bottle of seafoam, and am going to change it at about 1k like suggested. Every change from now on, I think I'm going to run t5 with a quart of mmo and just change it every 2-3k depending on running conditions at that oci.

One question about mmo though. How does it last through the oci? Does it stay in like oil or is it thinner and evaporate, burn up, etc? Do I need to add in more later in the oci?

^Each application seems to be different regarding MMO with any particular oil/particular interval, but solvent can burn off. I believe it's in a 20(fairly sure) or 30 weight (the MMO).

Just monitor your oil level within 1,000 miles of a new oil change interval with MMO added. I added 1 pint at my previous change, and lost about half of that(8 ounces or so) after my initial 750-1,000 miles with MMO; albeit my first use with it on this app for the oil change. I thus added another 8 ounces for top off and changed the oil at 2,750. I wouldn't go longer than 3,000 with MMO for an entire oil change in general.

Ok so it's done about 180k miles but you've only owned it for the last 30k or so. If you've been doing 3k changes you can pretty much be certain that all the sludge and "baking" would have taken place with the previous owner.

MMO is about a 5 grade oil. In some applications it will burn off, in others it doesn't. Simple solution is to check the oil more frequently and top up with oil only, or oil pre-mixed with 20% MMO.

While I knew it overall was thin, I didn't know if MMO had a 'carrier' of sorts(20 grade oil petro base with a good amount of solvents to bring the actual grade down?); an effective thin grade like a 5 isn't surprising then. I do believe your method is 'safer' for most folks(pre-mix MMO with oil to top off with). In my app, I chose to work up to 20% mix overall the last time(initial fill was 13-14%, then after adding 8 ounces it was close to 20%), but I wanted to get rid of some unused oil and didn't want to 'ounce' it down right away so compensated with adding more MMO later(I figured I'd lose oil anyway to allow for this)

Either way is fine Jim. I just wanted to mention that in some instances cars will consume a bit more oil with the addition of MMO, and people using it should check their oil more often. Over the years I've run many full OCI's with MMO, and in some cars used some oil, and in others I didn't. I do prefer to use MMO for a full OCI during the winter when I get the added benefit of better cold starts. I've used it during the summer w/o issue but like using it in the winter better if I plan on cleaning an engine.
