Just heard AZ's new commercial on ESPNradio.com. It was something like, "Oil is the lifeblood of your vehicle. Now get a full oil change, including filter, for $10.95 at participating Autozones. Protect your car's life...change your oil and filter every 3 months or 3K miles."

(I think around here they're selling PZ dino and maybe an STP filter...not sure about everwhere though.)

Uh-huh.

Here, it's $10.99 for 5 qts QS Dino and STP filter. Also get $2 off any air filter with the $10.99 oil change special. The Pennzoil special was last month, for $12.99, get 5 qts Pennzoil dino and Fram filter.

Okay thanks for clarifying that. I guess the price isn't bad, but I can get 5 qts of TropArtic and a ST filter at WM for a little less. Some can get even better deals at CSK, but alas, no CSK's around here.

at least it isnt as bad as their TV commercials. they have 2 guys throwin bails of hay talking about how they went into an autozone for a bad starter and ended up just buying a solenoid. another one has some guys around a campfire talking about how they just needed a cable instead of an alternator. very annoying.

i just ordered shocks there for my mom's car (2000 grand marquis) they carry Bilstein and although they are more expensive, if i ever need a warrenty claim taken care of i have a physical building to go to.

Might as well... I stopped going to A-Z for anything. I got tired of them handing parts over the counter to me that were stamped "MADE IN MEXICO".

OK, I'll admit that NAPA may be a few bucks more... but what is your time and effort worth?

We need to support NAPA... they have to get the #55 car back on the track!!!

Does NAPA get parts strictly from the U.S.? I'm just curious. I don't mind paying a bit more for better parts, not just because it's U.S. but because it's better. My brother took three rebuilt starters back to AZ one right after the other before he finally got his money back and bought one at a junkyard.

I'm not saying that NAPA gets their parts stictly from the US. They wouldn't be able to stay in business, and their product lines would be full of holes. There are times when I want higher quality.

I would say that NAPA likely has higher standards for the parts that they sell. I would say that the chance of getting three bad rebuilt starters in a row is a lot less likely at NAPA.

What was your brother's time and effort worth to do quality assurance testing for A-Z's vendor for them? If I put a starter on, if I have to pay $40 extra for a higher quality replacement part, and only have to do it once, then so be it. Seems like a good deal to me.

At about 8pm on a Saturday night, A-Z tried to sell me a "new" radiator that looed like it had been put together by someone who had just learned to solder the day before. It was a mess. It was also one of those (what I call) "sorta fit" applications. It looked nothing like the radiator that I had pulled out of the car, because (as they told me) it would fit "multiple applications", and had only a 90 day warranty. Ummm... No thanks.

Went to Advance (about 3 blocks away) and got a Modine with a long as you own your car warranty (that actually looked like my old radiator) for $20 more. Sold. And never replaced that radiator again.

Elwood:

I have seen Castrol Products on sale at AZ, and this included the GC. Also, I have seen a castrol mail in rebate for $15 when you buy 6 quarts of ANY (including GC) Castrol Syntec product.

Also... WELCOME TO THE FORUMS.
