On the AutoRX web page, it states that it is important to change the filter at the beginning of the treatment to avoid "pressure leaks", but it doesn't really elaborate on this. I can guess what a pressure leak is, but where is it most likely to occur, and what bad things are happening when this occurs? Is it possible to get a pressure leak even with a new filter?

Also, is AutoRX used up as it cleans or does it continue moving stuff to the filter indefinitely? It appears a maintenance dose can last for an entire oil change, so perhaps it mostly acts like a 'street sweeper' moving stuff around.

Ray if you don't start off with a clean filter and change the filter at recommended mileage,a filter full of "crud" can back up into your engine.Thats a pressure leak.It is impossible to get a pressure leak following application instructions regarding a clean filter.Maintenance amount of Auto-Rx is used after you have cleaned out your engine,it's function is to keep metal and oil as clean as possible. That way your getting maximum efficency from your oil and your engine.. Auto-Rx is a metal cleaning compound and does no harm, however application instructions should not be modified for example to save money and not change a filter when clearly called for.If you have to replace a filter because it is full just top off oil and continue till application is done.

I thought that as a filter became clogged, the bypass valve opened resulting in most (all?)the oil bypassing the filter. It appears that you are saying that a filter on bypass is a pressure leak. Correct? If so, how is crud backing up into the engine? Do you mean that the carrying capacity of the AutoRX is becoming saturated since there is no where to deposit the crud when the filter is bypassing?

Oil will only hold so much suspended third party abrasives if the carrying capacity of the Auto-RX is saturated and no where to deposit the crud when the filter is bypassing.Thats only happened one time and that's because user thought his old filter would hold all the dirt, debris and abrasives cleaned off his engine rotating parts ( his old filter was almost full when he started application, he told me he was saving a few bucks ?)Auto-Rx is a chemistry and uses proven applications for engines ,transmissions, power steeering, differentials. Any information needed by any one is on www.auto-rx.com or www.auto-rx.net
