I just opened up a new bottle of Auto-Rx after it sat in my unheated garage overnight and it looks like thick black pudding! Is this normal? The outside temp was in the mid 30's F. Seems like it could clog an oil filter if it was in an engine sitting in cold weather, making it go into bypass. Just an observation, any thoughs on this?

Screw the top back on and take it inside and let it sit for a few hours, or run it under hot water.

Once it is poured into the engine and you run it, everything will be fine, you are not the 1st to notice this.

I had the same thing happen to me, and I just brought it inside and ran some hot water over it.

I put a bottle in my car when it was around 50 degrees, it seemed very thick.

I put a bottle in my father's car a week back when it was 80 degrees, it seemed very thin.

It is very sensitive to tempature, but it is carried by the oil, so once it is in the oil it dosent do any of that and takes on the viscosity properties of the oil.

I always let it sit in the house over night, then pour it into the jug of oil I intend to put in the engine during the change. Give it a shake to mix things up and then pour it in all as one... Works great and doesn't clump.

I do what StevieC does, it works fine. I leave the A-Rx and oil in the house the day before the OC. Then when I do the OC I pour some oil into the car, then add the A-Rx to the remaining oil in the bottle, shake and pour it in. No problems. If you forget to leave the A-Rx inside, put the bottle of A-Rx into some hot water, then add it.

Yeah, heat the bottle up real good in hot water- as SuperDave456 said it is very sensitive to temperature viscosity-wise.

What I usually do is nuke a bowl of water for a couple of minutes in the microwave and let the ARX bottle simmer in it for at least ten minutes.

For those in cold climates cpo3's advice is good. I will take it a step further. Add the ARX to an already warmed up motor. Then allow the motor to run for 5 minutes or a ride around the block to allow for even dispersment. Once you have done that your multigrade oil is unaltered, with respect to viscocity and pour point.

The advice Rick20 has gives us is a good idea if you are in a very cold climate.

This will prevent the chance of auto-rx gelling up inside the engine.
