After 5 years / 60,000km, I decided it was time to try Auto-RX on a Suzuki Grand Vitara V6. This vehicle has always used synthetics. Dealer uses Shell Helix Ultra 15w50 and subsequently 5w40 for 10,000km intervals. After the 3 year warranty expired, I did my own oil changes and used Castrol SLX 0w30 subsequently. For this cleaning phase I used fresh Castrol GTX 15w40 with a brand new OEM filter and drove for 2500km / 3months. I decided to cut open the oil filter and see for myself (seeing is believing right?) what the oil filter picks up. I am truely amazed with ARX and am convinced it is the safest cleaner to use. There were goobs of sludge picked up between the pleats of the filter. I never imagined a vehicle using synthetic all its life will still have so much sludge buildup inside. Here are the pics. I am now on the rinse phase with fresh Castrol GTX and another fresh oil filter. I may just cut open the oil filter again and see what the rinse phase picks up.

Nice weeds and nice sandals.

I use ARX and the more I read about how well it works that happier I am.

This is one of the very few products that works as advertised.

You are both right. The long blades of grass are known as St. Augustine in the US. The tiny little round ones are the weeds. In the US, St. Augustine grass is like double the price of say your typical Kentucky Blue Grass. Fortunately over here they are the cheapest grass money can buy, and they are affectionately known as 'cow grass'. Ironically, Blue Grass or 'carpet grass' as we call them, is very expensive here.

And no Ken2, those are not the Staits Times (good guess though), they are the smaller tabloid size papers called the 'Today' papers. They are free of charge and I get one tossed onto my lawn everyday.

Man, I am just itching to see how much crap is in my 130,000 mile 4.3L V6 when I finish my cleaning phase.

That is what I observed in my filter after the 2nd ARX treatment and the 2nd rinse.

Also, I had a leak in the power steering were the shaft enters the rack. Shop said I would need a new rack. Leak was enough to be dripping and leaving a small (maybe 3") spot in a parking lot if I sat idling for 20 minutes or so. I put in 1.5 oz Auto Rx and the leak went away rather quickly. Then the power steering fluid got dirty (was pretty fresh and clean to start), so it must have cleaned the system out too.

We have always called St Augustine grass here "carpet grass". Also some bermuda grasses make good lawns if kept short. Its interesting what is available in other countries, in how they are valued and named, as opposed to here. And you semi-covered over that one hot looking babe on that newsprint....................I bet you all went back and looked didnt you?

There I go off on a tangent again, I appologize.

Did you try a filter before you started the treatment and cut that open as a "control" to see what one with normal oil same mileage looked like?? I wonder if it would have had the same amount or less debris trapped in the pleats.

im pretty excited about running autorx in my next oil change. im gonna cut open the filter and get some pics and than after both the autorx phases. should be pretty interesting to see what comes out of my 204k mile motor

There are plenty on the internet ~US$50. Do a search under 'oil filter cutter'. I just use a hacksaw to open mine, cos I dont intend to open oil filters for a living.

p.s. When are you bringing in Redline 5w20?

Just think what it might have looked like if you had been running dino all this time. Another reason to run synthetic oils.

Our Isuzu Trooper is very brown (but not sludged) after a diet of Mobil1 for 80K miles whereas a 4.3GM engines in a truck and boat are spotless. A lot has to do with the crankcase ventilation and other design nuances as well as usage patterns.

After 4155km / 4months, the rinse phase with Castrol GTX 15w40 yielded no more visible sludge on the oil filter.

I hate to tell you guys that there was not one blade of grass in the above picture, all of it was weeds! My yard is St. Augustine and I am an avid gardner..Flashlightboy know's his stuff!
