Oh so I can only assume that you don't change your own oil..hmmm

OK...There is the drain bolt on the oil pan where most of the oil collects....and then there is the oil filter. (no condescention meant).

If you screw off the oil filter it is high enough in the motor so only its contents and a few ounces more come out.

With the engine cold and wearing a rubber glove, put an oil pan underneath to catch that oil and set down the oil filter into. Then with your finger put a film of oil on the gasket and threads of the new filter and screw it on hand tight only.

Check level and top off...so as you see changing just the oil filter ONLY is very doable.

Check out my experience with burning oil and what others posted.

Yes I do my own oil changes.

Yes I know the oil filter is high up. But you see never knew you were suppose to change the filter if you found unusual consumption.

typically the filter holds 100-150ML when I take it out of my car during other oil changes. I know I guess I deserve that sarcastic post but w/e.

I'll change the filter today. I'll let it sit for a cpl hrs first tho.

Alright I Changed the filter after letting the car sit for 2 hrs. Funny thing here is the filter didn't have much oil in it at all like it usually does. And it did feel a bit heavy.

I'm at the 1052mile mark on the cleaning phase for notice.

Also I topped off with shell 5w30 as thats all I had in my garage.

Anyone have any other comments they'd advice me of ?

No worries, iDs, we all are learning and are using the forum as a tool for such. Tone is hard to type

and we genuinely do not know your background as far as things automotive.

So keep us posted as far as your progress..

i barely topped off today. like 100 ml. I overdosed autorx about .5oz last top off a couple days ago. I should be fine.

And yes the oil is finally getting black.

Does anyone know how to get a honda oem filter open.

Cut the base of the filter canister off with a Dremmel (or other rotary tool). DO NOT try a hacksaw... huge pain in the arse and messy (don't ask how I know

).

The advice to change your oilfilter, is just to be 100% sure that your oilfilter isn't full of sludge.
Normally, there is no need to change the oilfilter between the clean and rinse phase.
I think you are correct about the webpage NOT telling to change the filter between clean and rinse. At least I can't remember having seen it.

^ thats what i thought and here you have me being reamed at for not reading it. I felt like an idiot until I re-read everything and can't find it.

By the way, when you top up with oil, you don't have to put in more Auto-Rx. This is because the Auto-Rx is already clinging to the metal and contaminated parts of the metal. Adding more Auto-Rx will only clean out your wallet.
The only thing you need to do, is to put on the necessary miles(1500) to let Auto-Rx do the job.
Let us know how it is working out.

If you want to cut open filter do it after rinse is completed.

You won't see much after cleaning mode as liqified "contaminants' will be laying on oil lubricated parts. waiting to be rinsed off, then driven into oil filter.

STEP 3
Drain the oil and Auto-Rx and refill oil with a new oil filter.
Drive for 2000 miles. (Rinsing Phase) Then change oil and filter.

I I don't HAVE A dremel or a rotory tool. I have a drill and a hacksaw.

I understand, but I'd ask anyone I know if they have one to borrow. Not saying you shouldn't use a hacksaw, but believe me, it's worth the effort trying to locate one. Personally, I use situations like this to convince my wife I really NEED a new toy... err, tool.

still haven't opened up the filter but approaching that 1500mile clean phase end.

Question. I'm going to switch to GTX 10W30 as opposed to 5W30 should be good righT?

500 miles into the rinsing phase and had to add 1/2 a quart.

I don't think i even burned this much oil when i used castrol syntec for consecutive oil changes.

Frank has said that after the first few hundred miles the ARX is where it needs to be, and not to worry about adding more ARX.

Hope you have RX in the top up oil or your weakening the mix every time and wou will NOT get the result you should?
