Auto Mfg Know What Brand Lube Is Being Used?

Is he delivering or picking up used stuff? They might do deliveries for companies they have logos on tank.
They’re friends of mine.

They don’t do used oil. (Generally speaking, it’s an unwritten rule, new oil distributors don’t handle used oil.)

Those are the brands they’re a distributor of. And P66 = Honda. So they’re the Honda distributor in the area.

It depends on the OEM, but this is generally not true anymore. Most OEMs now require (or heavily incentivize or penalize, to the point of it basically being required), the use of OEM-branded oil. All of the local Ford dealers in my area only carry Motorcraft, with the outlier of one offering Mobil1 if you ask for it... while the GM dealers only carry ACDelco (and M1, under the GM oil program).
My one vehicle under dealership warranty and service plan?
Well, they tell me it’s AC Delco synthetic - and they advertise that on their website … That’s what is on my ticket when done … One time my agent looked at the ticket and said, oh man - looks like they put in 5W-30 - I can get it changed. Said leave it - got places to go and people to see 😷

That’s all I can go by - but pretty risky if any legal battle ensued (and not true) …

Dealers don't even use OEM-branded oil anyway. They use random bulk oil :sneaky:

The only time dealers use OEM oil is for warranty work.

And no, the car itself cannot tell the difference.
I was chatting with the Mazda Service Manager in Charlotte, NC when I was waiting for them to replace my sun visor a couple weeks ago. He said they use bulk Mobil. NOT Mobil 1. 5W-30 for the turbos and 0W-20 for everything else.

for several years around ChicagoLand the GM dealers I have had experience with used Mobil lubricants (and many times had this on those paper carpet savers they install when doing work in your car)...

Of course YMMV
