I just finished doing a service on my wifes 02 A4 1.8t quattro last night, very very little buildup on the magnets but the fluid was gross and BLACK, like every other Audi trans pan I've dropped. The car has 193k kms (116k mi) searching here I see 100k mile intervals 60 k mile intervals which one should I go by? She probably puts 5-7k kms a year on the car. Should I bother changing the filter in any time under 160k kms and just do a dump and fill every 30k until? I used Ravenol 4/5hp fluid and a Meisteratz filter.

I usually change out filters every 100k miles.

Was that filter the original one?

Full flush or just a pan drop?

If you did just a partial pan drop, repeat every 30K miles or 5years.

Install a Magnefine if you want additional filtration.

It was just a pan drop, the original filter wasnt too bad so maybe I will leave it 100k, the 27 t27 bolts holding the pan on is one of the reasons I don't want to keep dropping the pan, it sucks. I think I will do the drain and fill every 30k, possibly one at the end of this summer since the fluid was so gross.

I've changed the fluid several times in my 5HP19FLA, and usually stick to 30k mile intervals. I changed the filter twice, which I think was one more time than necessary since the fluid was never that bad and the magnets had little build up on them.

The reason the FF fluid looks worse than what you were expecting is because it started out a honey amber color instead of the normal red that you'd expect from ATF. I don't know how they can still do this (I think there's a law of some kind saying that ATF must be red) but they do. I just used Maxlife the last few D&Fs and everything is running great.

I know the oem fluid is amber, there was not a touch of transparency in it at all however. I'd say 30k sounds like a good interval then and I'll leave the filter for a long while, maybe I'll grab some maxlife and give it a shot however I like the ravenol since I can put a hose on the end and just squeeze the bottle to fill up the trans.
