I was just wondering how many people who bought Chrysler products a few years back with the Lifetime Power Train warranty. You know the free one that had the stipulation that before the 5th year of ownership they had to bring it in for a "free inspection" to keep the warranty intact. Anyone do that and what was your experience? I want to keep an open mind and my comments to myself not to derail my own thread, for now. TIA

I wonder that also,,When that was announced Gm filed for their bankruptcy and Chrysler prob thought well they wouldn't be here this long themselves to fullfill that warranty ,,I'm glad they both survived but did everyone forget about that outrageous warranty

I took some heat commenting about it a few years back. My Jeep is now 4.5 years old, and I wanted to check with people who brought theirs in for the "free check" to see what they ended up paying for services needed to maintain the warranty, or other creative upsells. Ooops I let my feelings slip out. I probably won't even bother, I don't have the patience to say no 100 times to the service writer.

I heard third hand it was a crock of B_S, which I'm certain it is but wanted to check here. Maybe I'll be surprised? LOL

I would assume if you bought brand new it would be documented and certified for that warranty they was sponsoring ,,But they might have snuck in some small print somewhere that would void it out,,Maybe some proof will come out on here

I bought it new, they wanted to inspect it between 4.5 and 5 years of ownership. I wanted to see if anyone brought theirs in and how it was handled. There isn't one single thing that my vehicle needs it has under 25,000 miles on it.

I've read favorable experiences on the Nitroforumz site. I bought mine used, so it doesn't apply to me. They just verify recalls & TSBs, check it out, and send you on your way.

That would be nice. No up selling?

Our 2007 Chrysler T&C had the lifetime powertrain warranty, but we sold it after two years, so I couldn't tell you about the powertrain inspection process.

Why not bring it in, anything they see that it needs they fix for free.

My friend has a Charger RT and he brought his in, he commutes so it has a lot of mile and they replaced some wear part on their dime. As he says Chrysler is my pit crew. They replaced a water pump, serpentine belt and tensioner. Cost =free

He said the WP was fine as well as the tensioner but I guess they want to replace as a precaution.

I'm going to give it a try and see, I have until December. Maybe they'll prove my thinking wrong and not try and sell me anything. I can't imagine that happening in NY though.

Good luck!

My parents have an 08 wrangler- the engine knocks and burns oil. It has the lifetime powertrane warranty. Chrysler says it's normal.

Of course, when you have the quality control that Chrysler (doesn't) have, engines with 60k burning oil and knocking *are* normal.

What a horrible organization.

My obvious advice is to take it to another dealer. Exactly how much oil does it use? Has the mandated maintenance been performed at the proper intervals?

3.8L engines are known for using oil. Not all will, but many do. As with most manufacturers, a consumption rate of one qt per 1,000 miles is considered normal. So yes, over the course of a 5,000 mile OCI, you might need to add three or four quarts.

Folks with 3.8L minivans have had cylinder heads and pistons replaced. Sometimes that cures the problem, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes a new long block is installed and that always fixes it.

you must have a [censored] dealer?

what are they going to sell you? If something on the power train is worn and needs to be replaced, they fix it for free?

Only thing you have to worry about is filter and fluid changes?

Dont see how they can upsell anything??

Although it's a lifetime powertrain warranty, there are a lot of items that are not covered by the warranty. Any of those are subject to an upsell attempt.

I took my 07' Jeep Grand Cherokee in for the lifetime powertrain warranty 5 year inspection and it was painless.
As a matter of fact, I don't think they did anything or looked at anything. The guy drove it to the end of the garage bays, wrote something down on a clipboard and drove it back and parked it. I was in/out in about 20min.
The service guy said I was coming close to my 60k mile service....
Gave me some paperwork saying everything was good.

And what are you referring to?

As I mention, my friend got the water pump, tensioner and serpentine belt repalced for free on his hemi.

The only thing he is repsonisble for on the drive train it fluid and filte changes, period!

He's very lucky to get that serp belt, as that is typically a wear item like tires and brakes.

This is a dealer issue, as not all of them are the same.

Thanks, someone else who thinks like I do. It is real easy for an upsell. Brake fluid flush, transmission service, a brake job, plug replacement, you name it. I don't need any of the above but to think that they are going to take my vehicle in and fix for free what is needed to maintain their LT warranty just makes no sense to me. Especially after coming from car sales and knowing exactly how they operate. Still I had to ask. But then again seeing how painless it was for some, I have to do it for my own curiosity. OTOH if they drive it through the bay knowing they aren't going to sell me anything maybe I'll skate right through! Thanks for the replies.

It's pretty bad how Chrylser has let their poor quality make it to the Jeep brand. My parents have had brand new jeeps since 1985 ... they're going to replace the wrangler with a Ford most likely.

1 qt / 750 is considered normal for this engine

I've called other dealers, they don't seem interested. It burns 1 quart per 500 miles. Or when they run it down the highway (such as coming out to see me), it'll drink a quart in about 350. We've also seen small bits of metal come up on the dip stick.
