ATGATT?

I'm a MTGMATT rider. Always full-face helmet, gloves, and jacket, but sometimes just regular work pants with kneeguards under and very rarely just running shoes or other low shoes. I personally am willing to take the chance if it is just too hot for riding pants, or if I'm off to WalMart to pick up something. 95% of safety is in the rider's hands, and 5% is luck. Drive safe!

A very loud ((( YES ))) ATGATT !! I recomend buying lots of gear for all types of rideing and seasons. and the best gear you can afford. I have crashed, i have lost friends, and ive seen gear save friends lives.. lesson learned.

Jeans 99.99% of the time, boots and leather jacket if the temp is below about 70-75, and transition lens sunglasses. Helmets are a personal choice and on the road my personal choice is that I don't wear one because I think they are more of a hindrance than a help. On the track or off-road I wear a helmet pretty much every time.

one more yes vote.

Not that I agree with it, but michigan has what I like to call a stupid people tax. Get caught without your helmet and you are getting a ticket.

Don't you have to wear ATGATT 100% of time at the track?

In missouri it's $25 fine, plus costs, for not wearing your helmet. If you are wearing a helmet but it doesn't have that little DOT sticker, then it's a $100 fine (plus costs).

Did you miss a zero on the $25 or is it better to be caught with no helmet than an unapproved one?

Nope - it's cheaper to get caught WITHOUT a helmet.

I'm sure that it makes sense to someone.... Maybe they were cracking down on those guys with the "skid lids".

Maybe because a bad helmet could become a projectile in an accident and hurt someone else, whereas going without a helmet risks no one but yourself?

Jeans 99.99%? Helmet optional? Sunglasses? Not ATGATT --

Jeans don't provide any protection unless they are specific motorcycle reinforced jeans.

All helmets provide some head protection.

Not true with regard to jeans, they provide a LOT more protection than shorts and provide protection at slow speeds. All helmets may provide some head protection but they also add weight to your decelerating head that your neck must -hopefully- compensate for in the event of a sudden forward stop i.e. frontal collision. Every helmet I had also limited my eyesight and hearing to varying degrees.

I am not knocking your decision to wear one. It is your personal choice to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of wearing one and to make your own personal decision, unless your state has taken your liberty away regarding helmet use. Surprisingly, Illinois has not yet taken that particular liberty away so I am allowed, as an adult over 18, to make my own decision regarding helmet use. Please respect that decision and don't push your views onto me regarding how I am supposed to live. We have enough safety Nazis in the US already.
