ATF - Mobil1 vs. Amsoil

Well this is propably not the answere you want. I have used both products in a number of applications. I have used them both in forign and domestic vechiles. I have used them in p/s pump's, transfere cases, and transmissions with no problems. I like them both. I like Redline best, Amsoil next and M1 last. If avaibility is an issue then M1 ATF is easy to find localy in most places and their is no shipping! THe Amsoil is slightly better product but requires a membership fee to get the cheaper price nad you have to pay shipping if a dealer is not close by. THe extra cost must be factored in to this! Redline wich you did not ask about is the best I have used but the price is insane and only justifiable if you are really abuseing the equipment. You must pay shiping for redline as well. Hope this helps!!!

That does.

I have other things I need to get from Amsoil - so I will just go that way. I have a Ford Escort - the transmission is horrible. I am putting on a tansmission cooler - but also want a decent ATF to put it in. Redline is a little too pricey - M1 is available locally but I think Amsoil is the ticket.

If your Ford calls for Mercon-V ATF, Mobil 1 is the wrong product. Amsoil says that their ATF is OK in Mercon-V applications. Mobil 1 ATF meets the Dexron-III/Mercon specs, and some folks add a bottle of Lubegard Green supplement which claims to convert Mercon to Mercon-V.

I have the Amsoil ATF in my DTT Transmission. My Dodge Ram has 400 hp and 700 + ft\lbs of torque. Havent had a problem yet.

Now AMSOIL's ATF claims to meet Mercon V requirements, how can we tell be the specs whether does it meet up to Merc V standards?

We can't. We only have Amsoil's word that it does, not Ford's written acceptance. If Ford denies a warranty claim because they feel there's evidence of incorrect fluid usage, then the fun begins between Ford, the owner, and Amsoil. Amsoil states that they'll intervene and notify the manufacturer that Amsoil products surpass the manufacturer's fluid service specification. That's nice. Ford could then just as easily fire a letter back to Amsoil effectively stating, "Good, then you pay to fix this Bozo's transmission." I figure once a car is out of warranty, do as ya' please. Under warranty, I do as the manufacturer specifies since they're paying the freight...
