I've been bad and let my '03 Tahoe go 106k miles on original ATF. I also just bought an '05 Suburban Z-71 with 76k miles. Both vehicles have well functioning transmissions.

I plan on performing a pan drop/filter change.

Then do a fluid exchange.

I'm considering the following:

ST ATF + Lubegard Red
ST DEX-VI
Valvoline Dex-VI
Valvoline Max Life

I'm trying to keep the price under $6/qt. Any other suggestions welcome.

Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated.

Thanks

ST Dexron-VI, no additives.

All GM licensed Dexron-VI fluids will perform almost identically.

ST Dex VI or Maxlife. Saw for 3.77 and 3.67/qt respectively at WM this weekend. I would not hesitate to use either of these good fluids on either vehicle.

I've been using Valvoline Dex VI lately (GM branded Dex VI before the Valv. when I could get it cheaper) and have been very happy with it. In theory The Critic is correct that the ST should perform the same. My 4L60E takes a lot of abuse and I've had no issues.

Thanks for the input....

Is AMSOIL or RP worth the extra $$$ over DEX-VI?

I could perform two fluid exchanges over time with DEX-VI and still be cheaper than one fluid exchange of AMSOIL or RP.

Use any fluid that meets the Dex VI spec. Since both transmissions are functioning fine skip the Lubegard. Pan drop should remove 5 quarts of fluid. Total transmission capacity is 12 quarts. Pan drop/filter exchange followed by a fluid exchange on two vehicles will use approximately 35 quarts of ATF by the time you're all done.
