Ariens Sno-Tek 24 not starting with pull start

I have an Ariens 24 that had gotten to the point where it was extremely hard to hand start. I tried everything in the book, cleaned the carb, new plug, everything. I would [censored] with it for hours, plug in, plug out, squirt ether, heat the head with a heat gun and even then occasionally it wouldn't go. Finally i wised up and fitted an electric starter. Now I prime it. choke it, hit the starter button and bang its running. One of the best $100s I've ever spent.

Kernel, I'm assuming yours isn't an LCT engine, given they all come with 120VAC E-start?

Fresh E10 solved my no-start last winter, and I hope it works again….

Put fresh E10 into the Snotek, set at full choke, no priming. Hit the electric starter briefly twice, and the engine started (at 30F) and ran smoothly.

Conclusion: for me at least, EO gasoline is not a usable winter fuel. I will continue to use E0 in the lawnmower and string trimmer. But only as off season storage gas (with Stabil Marine) in the snowblower.

Thats a gas supplier issue not an E0 issue.

I have E0 90octane recreation fuel in my toro and it fired up same as always. 2 Gallons for 7.50$ and I am confident that with pri-g it will stay good all winter.
Alot cheaper than buying a 6pack of premix. It runs ok on e10 but its from 1995 I try to not use anything except Ethanol free.

IF you bought marina gas or somewhere it moves slow.. its very possible it was summer gas.

This toro starts so good. Turn on Ignition,Turn on gas, choke, wait 5-10seconds. primer x2 an 1 good pull every time.. maybe a second pull if I was wimpy.

Only times it hasnt started I either forgot to turn on gas or ignition.. and it will start on the first pull after I correct it.

Yes, I agree. It is Conoco E0 91 oct at a station in town. Probably works great for the boat crowd in summer on the lake. It costs about 60 cents per gallon more than E10 premium. I never had an issue with it in warm weather use in my lawnmower and string trimmer.

I am surprised this busy gas station does not seem to switch over in November to a E0 blend more suitable for snowblowers and snowmobiles.
