do autos today look to sissy? Small, no room, 4 cyl, stupid after market exhaust that sound like a childs toy car,,give me a break, ur thoughts.............

Looks sissy? Funny question. The Nissan Cube has some room fr it s weight - looks a litle too retro modern "Woody Allen Sleeper-esque". The kia version is a bit funkier - but ive grown tired of the Toyota Xb and its thirsty engine. Now, the civic got larger and heavier and has less room inside and has the most ridicuoous dash design in decades. Folks still buy them in massive quantities. I dont like the grill on the new mazda 3 - thats a mouth!

If anything, I think there are too many cars that are way too big and try too hard to look tough...

My main pet peeve on styling is hump backed, high slab sides, and tiny out-of-proportion tires/wheels.

That describes the Toyota Echo perfectly.

I haven't seen a truck I liked since the 96 F-series, 93+ era Ram, or the previous generation GMs. The new stuff has way too much chrome plated plastic and the cartoonish Tonka-esque styling completely overcompensates.

One thing I can give designers credit for is scaling cars to shed any apparent size. I can't tell the difference between all the new cadillacs and the Fusion is a bigger car than it looks like in photos.

+1 to that. Too many wannabes trying to feel like they are driving a tractor-trailer or something.

4-cyl? not an issue. Sissy? I dont know how to characterize that way. Why that term? because of the softer, rounder lines?

I see most styling as being cyclical changes, going from boxy to round and back and forth. Right now we are in an MPG-centric mode, so things get rounder, smoother, more streamlined.

How about the Rhondo, whoever makes it, slab sides, tiny wheels.I swear I had a toy windu[ car just like it when I was a kid.It did have HUGE back doors though obviously great for kids car seats. As for most styling its all aimed at market niches, era cliche or to gimmick off another brand.Girly, yeah ,a little, but they dont make cars with full steel bum[ers anymore,so whats one to do.You could stick with a commercial vehicle but,the wife wont drive `that thing` nor would i want her to :)or buy a classic(nice thought) or go with what they got out now.My fav of all time.. my 1980 f250 4x4 manual and (you had to get out and lock the hubs) with minor tuning it always ran like a charm, and my `69 firebird..wish i still had it,etc...etc..

I notice most of the new cars have a huge bulky frount end. Are they trying to make the sporty car or sedan look like a P/U truck? Dont work for me, what happened to the sleek aerodynamic styling we used to have.

This they call progress?

I agree that they are trying to make things look tough, and fail at it. Ford's trucks get uglier and bulkier every year. The new Silverados look quite similar.

The Bettle should be number one on that list.

all cars have headlights that run up on the hood backwards, and in 90% cases, with a big air vent in the front, this results in a happy clown face.

The top edge of the tailgate on my rental F150 4x4 is as high as my armpit.... and I'm 6 foot 4 with my workboots on.

That's too high... I can't wait to get my Chevy back. This thing to too high to work out of the bed. No wonder that Ford came up with that stupid tailgate fold out step and handrail.

I don't know what a "sissy looking car" is, but I do know that women buy 45% of the new cars, and influence 85% of all new car purchases. I'm sure that little fact has a lot to do with how cars look.

Also, safety regulations play a huge part in car design. For example, the front ends of new car designs are made to provide a higher level of safety to people in car vs pedestrian accidents. 13% of car accident deaths in the US are caused by car/pedestrian contact. EuroNCAP has enacted new test procedures to measure car/pedestrian accident injuries and provide ranking information.

I know I hate the Mazda 5, wouldnt be as hate-able If Mazda wasnt charging full size minivan price for a 16K vehicle. I think the Kia rondo is a functionally styled small family vehicle for a reasonable price. Too bad its made overseas. They are VERY popular around here.
