Walmart doesn't state when the sale ends. I can only assume it's a weekly sale.
This is the MacBook Air with M1 chip. It is the first in the series of Apples new M1 chip back around the start of 2021. I above this exact model and so far performed flawlessly for the last 3 years.
The reason for the sale is it is their older model, certainly capable of doing anything that any laptop computer can do with stellar battery life too. It is so efficient that it doesn't have a fan to keep it cool.
If you use it for heavy work related things some commented they would like more memory. Apple OS is more efficient than Windows though.

As my home laptop I have never needed anything more, it's lightening fast. Much of my computing is also done on a Mac desktop too.

I will second the 'nice machine' remark. A caveat that I'd offer is that it's a 5 year old model (came out in November 2020). As such, that may shorten the usable window where Apple will provide OS updates. Microsoft will similarly will stop sending out Office updates sooner as well. I was bit by this with an Intel-based MBP that could not run the Teams app due to the version of the OS.

If updates and Office are not critical, then this could be a very good machine.

I've never seen Macs in Walmart stores (used to see them in Sam's) so I thought this was a 3rd-party seller using WM's 'marketplace' website. Nope, I can even pick them up today if I wanted.

From Apple's website, you wouldn't know they still produced these though....

Yes, I have noticed recently that Walmart sells new older versions of Apple products.
I guess that was a way for Apple to get into a discount store like Walmart without tarnishing their pricing model for their newer products

I was going to get one for dad till I seen the price lol. But cheaper than it was a couple years ago I’m sure lol. He needs to get a real man’s computer and I was going to surprise him till I seen the $649 price haha.

Exactly.... This is another reason I stray away from all things Apple, their arrogance is as deafening.

The thing is half a decade old, with only 8G of Ram and no ability to expand or perform todays heavy lift work, less than $50 off the retail price 5 years later down to $650... Come on now! There is really no efficient or effective reason to buy this thing at this price today, it should be $300 machine, and honestly I'm being generous.

Good price. They started out at $1500+. And are still viable computers. My Mac is an M1.

Yeah I love Apple but their prices can be insane especially for an older one like this. I buy exclusively Apple but I pay for it for sure.

Got an MBA 2022 M2 as a work award - played a few days - decided it would be confusing going back n forth with dell
Gave to son and got 13” iPad …

Incorrect, the list price of the M1 when it came out was $999
I got mine on sale at the time for either 799 or 899

There’s a lot of things that you don’t know about a MacBook Air based on your post. Clearly no point in discussing it any further.

That’s no bargain. You only get 2.5 years left of updates. At $649 that comes out to $260/year of service. If you buy a brand new 13” M4 MacBook Air for $999, you’ll get 7 years of updates making it $143 per year of service.
You can expect this laptop to be serviceable for more than 2.5 years
2017. Models are still serviceable nine years later.

Just an example. But besides that some people rather spend $650 for a laptop that they’re going use around their house for at least the next five years instead of $1000
Best part is I’ll still be an apple with up to 18 hours of battery life and an M1 processor which probably still beats a lot of windows based computer processors.

Just saying

I have nothing against paying more for those who wish to. But after five years, if the thing is still alive, hasn’t been dropped broken or beat up by the kids you could go and get another new one with a new 1yr warranty.
I’m just saying this for those you want a good laptop around the house they can’t go wrong

Apple supports laptops for 7 years for OS updates and then it switches to 2 years of security updates. So yeah, this machine will be supported for a total of 4.5 years but only 2.5 years for OS updates. Also keep in mind that security updates are only critical security patches. It’s junk at this point at this price.

I'm still using a 2017 MBP and it hasn't let me down for what I do. Don't really do much more than youtube, web browsing, google drive, spotify. Granted I do have a desktop PC that I use for more powerful tasks, but MBP holding up fine for basic usage.

Don't really intend on replacing my 2017 unless it slows down significantly or it got damaged.

I still have mine from 10 yrs ago. Feels like a sack of bricks in my backpack navigating an airport, looks like I’ve used it as a hammer at a construction site. I’m going ride it out till it officially breaks. I have went through no less than 5 windows based laptops since I bout my MacBook.
