Anyone want 5 quarts of maxlife?

Heck, the mustang loves the Maxlife 5w30 maybe I'll just save it for the next oil change for it! I just don't think my particular 2.2 likes it.

I'm not doubting what you claim has happened. But, you have to acknowledge that you changed 2 variables simultaneously. There is, at best, a 50% chance it is the oil causing the ticking.

Maybe

That's kinda what I'm thinking too. Oh well, unless it takes a turn for the worse I'm going to run it 4, 5k miles. With my upcoming commute it shouldn't take too long. Also what made me change my mind was that Synpower is $24 a bottle plus 7% tax.

rudolphna, do you notice the ticking on startup or when it is fully hot or all the time?

Lesson to be learned. If it aint broke dont fix it. Shouldve kept the PP in it for another 3-4k miles.

Well, when the UOA results get back we'll see. Probably though. I'm mulling over what to run next. I'm thinking either synpower, Amsoil XL, or back to PP. I'm leaning toward the Synpower at the moment.

You know Synpower is on the heavy side of the 30 weight oil too, I believe.

If your car likes thinner oils like PP, my best guess would be to give it what it likes... which is PP, or go with PYB if you want something cheaper.

I start to believe cars are better with some brands than others. That doesn't mean these oils are bad, they are as good as the others, but they seem to blend better with some engines and not others.
For example, even if I love Mobil1 products, I won't use it in a Nissan engine, but will definitively choose it for a Honda engine.
My Nissan seems to really like Pennzoil products (really quiet).

Maxlife and Synpower are both from Valvoline, and your engine seems better fitted with Pennzoil products.

My 2 Canadian cents... which is now 2 US cents, WOow!!

Well I mean cold starts are MUCH better with the Maxlife than with the PP. I mean to a truly astonishing degree. Now that I have 150 miles (90 of them highway) on the oil, it seems to be wearing in a little bit. The tick is still there, as is a little clatter when letting off the gas at low speeds, but I can live with it for a few months.

Well you know the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Put in what it ran well on and stop switching (known as BITOG syndrome). LMAO

30 is between 9.3 and 12.5cSt, and Synpower 5w30 and 10W-30 are 10.5cSt, which I personally consider toward the lighter end of 30, and very typical of the average 5w30 and 10W-30.

Chevfreak, do you know what 2 or 3 brands are heaviest (towards 12.5) in the 10-30 weights? Thanks!

Shell Rotella T5 synthetic blend is 12.1

Valvoline Maxlife 10W-30 synthetic blend is 11.5 and the full synthetic is 11.7

Castrol Syntec 0W-30 is on the very high end at 12.1

Pretty much any HDEO 10W-30 will be on the upper end.

I wrote it from the back of my head, without checking the data before (therefore the "I believe").
Thanks for correcting my mistake, Synpower is below the average viscosity, more on the thinner side.

Not if you use it for its intended purpose, which I'm guessing the "buyer" will, then it will not be considered HazWaste

I used maxlife in my truck and got the same ticking sound. I switched to Supertech full synthetic and stayed with Wix filter and resolved the problem.
