So I kinda gave up on the vegan thing. sure I felt good and all for a while, but I started getting sick of taking pills to supplement my body all the stuff it needs. So I slowly started adding small amounts of dairy and eggs to my diet. So far it's going awesome!

Anyway, recently I read the benefits of high-end full fat milks on the market. They were stated that grass fed cows have the most naturally occuring vitamins and minerals in the milk(not fortified like that cheap garbage). Not only that, but that the fat in the milk actually does not cause you to get fat, nor high cholesterol (when consumed in reasonable quantities, obviously). But the main kicker for me is the TASTE! I tell ya, I though coconut milk in recipes was good, but it's nothing compared to this stuff!

Yesterday the GF and I went to WF in Seattle and I got a carton of non-homoginised, full fat, grass fed milk. It's amazing to open a carton of milk that needs to be shaken, because the milk has fat naturally on the top. The color has a soft, lumpy, buttery appearance....just how I like my ladies

Anyway, just wanted to share with you 'mericans how lucky you guys are to have this stuff, it freakin ROCKS!!!!

If you're eating a healthy, balanced diet (vegan or otherwise) you won't need to take pills.

While I don't like vegan eating or the ideology that often accompanies it, I agree with this.

I wouldn't drink it unless its been pastuerized and homogenized. Commericially producing cows are generally milked by a machine and it sometimes causes their udders to get infected, so sometimes the milk gets puss in it from the infected udders or teets. Therefore, I prefer that milk fully processed!

Puss in your milk, that'll make ya stop and think.

This I have drank fresh raw milk before. Now that I have done that I can say that I have. No reason to do it again.

If milk is the nastiest drink you have consumed I consider you lucky.

Good for you. I tried drinking almond milk once and couldn't stand the taste. Went right back to regular milk.

You can be vegan without all the supplements, it is just a matter of using the foods that provide what you're getting from the pills.

Obviously never had a 6 pack of Narragansetts.

so wait, you take the animal, and let it live and eat like it's "naturally" supposed to, and you get superior products from it?!?!?!

I put naturally in quotes, becasue there is nothing "natural" about the development of the modern dairy cow. so domesticated we don't even let 'em fornicate anymore.
they are mainly reproduced via artificial insemination.

I wonder how Bison Milk tastes? it's a much healthier meat, and the animal is WAYYY better suited for N.America.
they don't strip the grazing land, they need much less water than trad. cattle. did i mention healthier meat? that tastes amazingly beefy?

it's almost as if they evolved to face the conditions that exist here.... weird..

I grew up on a dairy farm. When we wanted milk to drink in the house, we would get a container and just dip it out of a 1,000 gallon tank from cows that we milked. Yes, with whole, non-homogenized milk, you have to shake it to get the cream to mix with the milk because the "cream rises to the top". (Ever wonder where they got that phrase?)
ANYWAY, all that cream is fat. Take a look at the nutrition label of your grass-fed milk and if you look closely, you will see how much fat is in just a cup (one serving) of your milk. THAT is why that milk tastes so good. It's not necessarily because the cows were fed grass (although different cow feeds can affect the flavor of the milk), it's because you have all that cream or fat in your milk. It's also why premium ice cream tastes so good, because of all the fat it has in it. While your tastes buds will like this milk, your arteries and heart won't.

All cows in New Zealand are grass fed, they stay outdoors all year round. Although in winter when grass growth is down they are supplemented with hay, silage or maize. Milk and cream (cream is separated at the farm, or used to be) straight out of the vat after morning and afternoon milking is great....the milk is almost like cream for breakfast, the cream is almost as thick as yoghurt.

3 years ago I was working at a place that had a house cow, morning coffee break we discussed how the milk tasted....everyday was different. Milk fresh out of the cow won't kill you.

I always thought milk tasted gamey. I can't drink milk now anyways so I guess it doesn't matter.

The taste of almond milk depends on the brand. Silk is nasty. They put too much thickeners in it to try to imitate the texture of cow's milk.

The grass fed will have way more minerals, and a far better fatty acid profile (omega 3s etc.) than any grain fed milk can ever hope to attain...it's not just taste, it's nutrition.

Then throw the milk into heat and homogeniser, destroying any enzymes, and distributing the now half rancid fat, and you have a recipe for disease.

I went to college in the great State of Nebraska, (Go Big Red!!!!!!). While there, I used to spend my Thanksgiving break, Christmas break and Easter break with a family who had a diary farm way out in the Sandhills. Whatever milk you drank came right out of the cow. I have no doubt it was high in fat, but we were working in sub-zero temps, (it gets extremely cold in the Sandhills), so those extra calories helped us stay warm in the bitter winter weather. The only thing that kinda bothered me was the milk barn wasn't the cleanest place and had a lot of cow patties on the floor. I'll never forget the first time they took me out there and were showing me the set up. While we were chatting about the system and operation, Paul, (my friends father) set a five gallon bucket on the floor amidst all the cow poo, took the lid off the tank, and proceeded to dip out some milk. When he did, little pieces of cow poo floated off into the fresh milk. He told me several times, "I've got all this stainless steel equipment and I still keep getting a grade "B" rating - I don't know why." I didn't say anything but I was thinking, "it could be that earthy additive you just put in the tank." They were good people, hard working, salt of the earth and always made me feel welcome and at home which was very nice for a Florida boy who couldn't afford to travel home for the holidays.

Last time my family all got together, my sisters-in-law were laughing about how my brothers always shake the milk before pouring it. I do it too--old habits die hard.
