There is a long-abandoned Firego gas station with a crumbling building and old 1960s–1970s gas pumps on US 301 near Stony Creek, Virginia, about 30 miles from the North Carolina line. Several pictures of the old station are posted online.
I would guess that the station was abandoned at least 40 years ago. I used to pass it a lot when I lived a few miles away. The lot is now completely overgrown with brush.
My stepfather remembered that Firego had had gas stations in upstate New York, probably in the 1950s. So that suggests the brand was sold in a few states at least.
No information about the brand or company is available using search engines, so it folded well before the Internet. Does anyone know anything about the history of Firego and what became of it (merged with another company, etc.)?
