....paper type air filters? I'd be curious to see how that would turn out. Would a UOA even tell you what's going on with these filters? I know the K&Ns allow more contaminants into the engine, but is it actually enough to be concerned about?
Go to the air filter forum and do a search....it's been discussed many times on there!Depends on the vehicle and it's air box set-up.Some vehicles show no change in Si (dirt) and others show a big difference using the K&N as compared to original equipment.
I've personally seen the downstream intake tracts of turbo diesel pickups run with both filters in the Arizona desert.
You don't need oil analysis to see the difference.
Does it really hurt engine life measureably?
I don't know.
I have seen an old carbureted Chevy wagon that ran 75,000 miles with no filter at all and was doing fine.
