How sad and disgusting our nation has become when an American needs to feel safe IN YOUR OWN HOME by carrying a firearm.

What a disgrace. That really says something about our culture.
I agree somewhat, but maybe many live in a hood neighborhood so to speak, unfortunately , Disney Land does not exist for some..

A man with a lengthy criminal record is believed to have killed eight people, including two children, in the western Canadian city of Edmonton Tuesday before taking his own life in what the city's police chief called "tragic incidents of domestic violence."

"In my 39 years of policing, I've never seen anything like it," said Rod Knecht, who did not identify the suspect over the course of two news conferences Tuesday evening, but said he was well-known to police and had a criminal record dating back to September 1987.

No, but I wish we could. I would be one of the first to sign up for concealed carry if it ever became available.

The only carry I would like to see for restricted firearms is wilderness carry. I'd like to try hunting with a handgun.

I had a run in with a motorcyclist this morning. He successfully did a high speed lane change in front of me, (only successful since I had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting him). I proceeded to lay on my horn since he was blocking the only road out of the downtown core. This upset him.

We proceeded a bit, then at the next intersection he cam eup to my passenger window and started banging on it (an attempt to scare me?). He also tried opening the passenger door, but it was locked (not that i locked it, but I never unlocked it this morning). He finally resumed his journey by putting his bike in gear and leaving. I thought of reporting him to the police, but I forgot the plate number.

This got me thinking....what if my passenger door was unlocked? what if he broke my window and proceeded to assault me? I dont' have any weapons to protect myself. I would carry pepper spray, but in the case of the biker, he had a face shield.

Anyone else carry a weapon? My dad used to have a tire iron he had on the back passenger seat. He never had to use it (as he was always the "safe and slow" driver in his Volvo wagon) but it was nice to know it was there

After this run in, I'm seriously considering installing one of those dash cams. At least it will be able to record all the unbiased info.

It's probably been said already, but in this situation your car is a much more dangerous and effective weapon than anything you can hold with one hand.

I guess some people live in glass houses and don't realize that violence can happen anytime, anywhere. Statistically the odds that you will be involved in that kind of situation are probably pretty rare but I want to be prepared and have a tool at my disposal to help me if I am in that situation.

I've worked in a prison for over 23 years and over the years I have talked to and read in detail the crimes of many inmates and have seen first hand what people can do to others so I know what the ugly side of life can be like.

I also personally know because in 2006, one of my sisters was stabbed and strangled to death.

Most people think it won't happen to them but for every horrible crime you read about or watch on the news, I doubt those people thought it would happen to them either.

For me, a firearm is a last resort for when I can't avoid a situation that could end up bad for me.

For those who don't want to own or carry a gun, that is fine, but don't expect the cops to come rescue you if you get into a bad situation because they rarely arrive in time.

I wish all those "gun-haters" would get a SMALL "taste" of a situation where they did need a gun. Then let's see if they change their mind and realize you CAN'T ALWAYS depend on someone else to PROTECT you all the time, at any time.

Haven't read the posts, only the title.

First year out of University, was living back home, and driving 75km to work every morning and back again.

Anyway, one day there was this blonde hitchhiking as I was driving home, and I turned around and stopped to help her on her way.

Fortunately I had sufficient protection for that evening, but needed to restock multiple times over the next few days.

This is more or less what I was getting at with my "Most people just carry a fully loaded cell phone" comment.

Without getting political, there are some that would tell you with a straight face and zero emotion that you dont really need a gun most of the time, and that having a fully charged phone and a full tank of gas will give you adequate protection. And, while that makes a certain degree of sense, it certainly cannot save a life in a robbery... where they would take your phone, and keys, and possibly your life.

I used to live with someone where I heard it all. "Why do we need assault rifles." . "You can't say that you don't want to go to a doctor." "Money has nothing to do with it." And many more. Oy..

when your leather wallet starts to look like an embossing of the Olympic rings, that's not protection anymore.

LOL! He "got" you... KevGuy has a chip on his shoulder against the USA, and says instigative comments. (I think that is called being a troll.) You should have seen his thread about his opinion about 0W-20.

LOL.
As far as firearms go - no CC in Canada, but a 12ga or ranch rifle is only a few feet away most times.
While I'm back in the US, I CC, and have been doing so every day since I was 20.

The silence is deafening.

But it would seem our largest inner cities are indicative of EXACTLY how "Gun Control" works in the real world. I read somewhere on the Net about how if you remove the largest cities our death rate by gun is surprisingly low per capita.

We all know who has guns when they are illegal...

Chicago is a great example of why gun control in the US absolutely does not work.

1. The primary reason is that there are way too many guns already in circulation - by some estimates there are 300 million guns in US.

2. Criminals don;t obey gun control laws. There is a huge population of career criminals and up and coming ghetto hood rats that care less about gun laws. They buy guns on the street super easy and have no problem using guns to murder each other as well as for other criminal purposes.

3. If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time in your home or in public place and are threatened by a crazy or a violent criminal with a gun, there is absolutely nothing the police can do to help you - when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.

It is nuts that places like schools do not allow permitted CC holders to carry inside the school. That is one reason why crazies go to schools to murder innocents because they know no one there is armed in a school to stop them. I personally would want a dad with valid CC permit to be carrying while coincidentally visiting a school when a crazy comes in to do harm. At least the kids would have a chance.

If you do chose to arm yourself it is not easy and it takes time and money to train and practice. And it is not risk free by any means. Having a permit to carry a firearm and being prepared to safely use firearm are two completely different things. Some people feel that it is worth the time, effort, money and risk, others don't...personal choice.

In the US given current conditions I feel safer being able to CC when I feel it is appropriate. I am 100% in favor of CC permit and training requirements and for universal background checks to purchase guns because it helps to keep guns away from crazy people and felons - far from foolproof since too many guns already in circulation but it is a help.

Agree, and that was one reason that I chose NOT to own a firearm for the short time I lived in the U.S.

Everyday, I see more than a few drivers on the road doing stupid stuff. Put a little snow on the road (not common around here) and you see REAL stupid.
Add some kind of a panic situation and you see just how prepared many (trained and licensed) drivers are.

Makes me wonder when I'm in the States just how 'Level headed' gun owners around me might react in a situation.

OK it seems many people on this site take ownership VERY seriously.
But I bet there are 'morons with guns' out there
