I had a run in with a motorcyclist this morning. He successfully did a high speed lane change in front of me, (only successful since I had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting him). I proceeded to lay on my horn since he was blocking the only road out of the downtown core. This upset him.

We proceeded a bit, then at the next intersection he cam eup to my passenger window and started banging on it (an attempt to scare me?). He also tried opening the passenger door, but it was locked (not that i locked it, but I never unlocked it this morning). He finally resumed his journey by putting his bike in gear and leaving. I thought of reporting him to the police, but I forgot the plate number.

This got me thinking....what if my passenger door was unlocked? what if he broke my window and proceeded to assault me? I dont' have any weapons to protect myself. I would carry pepper spray, but in the case of the biker, he had a face shield.

Anyone else carry a weapon? My dad used to have a tire iron he had on the back passenger seat. He never had to use it (as he was always the "safe and slow" driver in his Volvo wagon) but it was nice to know it was there

After this run in, I'm seriously considering installing one of those dash cams. At least it will be able to record all the unbiased info.

If I go on a longer trip where the state I am driving through recognizes Pa's CCW I'll sometimes carry. Around my local area, I figure I can pretty much drive awayfrom trouble.

99.9% of the time the later option is possible. I don't flip anyone out and give them an excuse to attack me.

If you lived in a free country you could carry a gun. In Canada I don't know what to tell you.

Take his picture with cell ,than move away.he follows call the police . Sometimes you options are limited and then you have to deal or take off and let it go.

If you take the "protection" route I would definitely take some courses in self defense (firearm)...Why? because if you get a competent trainer they are going to train you how to avoid using your firearm (awareness etc). They would have trained you to completely avoid the situation you had yourself in with the motorcycle. Most likey by simply driving off.

I always have my 9" survival knife on my belt. I usually have my bow in my truck as well. I shoot it before and after work in the shop. stress relief

I'm just afraid I will over react one time and get in trouble. If that guy would have pulled on my door handle on the truck it would have opened since I don't lock it while driving. The car locks automatically so it would not have opened. but I can tell you he would have a knife pointed at him and would have been told to go away peacefully. I cant let my family starve cause I was killed from lack of being prepared. But I'm also almost six and a half feet tall and I usually fold out of the vehicle I'm in so it's a tad intimidating. Once I got out and the guy just turned around and drove away. He was very small as well. almost comically.

I carry a 20 guage behind my back seat in the truck.

Last night I had to go out to Walmart place was dead maybe 10 cars 1-2 am

Anyways a women asked me to jump off her SUV.

Oddly enough it was at the very back end of the parking lot. Once I get the cables out 4 guys started walking to us. Go to the car, lock my wallet in the glove box and grab a knife.

Wish I had my truck. Anyways people started watching us from the entrance of the store.

I didn't bring out knife but I suspect they did plan something. It was a very nervousness vibe from them.

Contemplated it, but oddly the states I fear most make it very hard to do so (NY, MA, CT is not so bad I guess but in same boat). Leaving New England requires passage thought those states... So no, I almost never carry in the car.

No, I don't have anything in my house or in my car for protection.

Just stay calm and avoid confrontation if possible. Carrying protection will enable you to escalate the problem(s) you may have easier and more serious problems may follow.

I carry once in awhile, never felt I really needed to. Your best weapon in a situation like that is your vehicle, floor it.

Remember when your life is in danger their are only two types of ground, drivable and not drivable.

Side walks and green areas are very drivable for a truck, if someone tries to assault you at a stop light floor it. Most trucks can push small cars out of the way if you really need to get out.

It is best to carry it for all kinds of driving,,remember the nut cases are out there--they may look normal---they ain't--and you will never know it.

Its the element of surprise that gets you, by the time you find your gun, get it out, and so on, its over. If you think it will not happen to you,,read up on some stories in The American Rifleman magazine, you can Google it. I use the old fashion 38 revolver..speed of the bullet in miles per hour,,about 500mph.
