That is so true!!

OTOH: If you can find most of those buttons and push them in the right sequence, she is yours for life.....

Oldmoparguy, surely you've been married long enough to know this isn't true. You can go ahead and push those buttons in the right sequence ... but, you MAY get six months out of that procedure only have to learn a new button-pushing configuration!

Hmmm. I believe that English is not mori's first laguage, yet he manages to spell words correctly and use proper grammar.
Since you "wounder" I never actually won a spelling bee, but I've had way more than my share of relationships with attractive women.
I don't think anyone was making the assumption that being able to spell was high on a woman's priority list when she's checking out a man.
You just make yourself a bit harder to take seriously when you write that way.

The quality of a post's content is frequently directly proportional to the form in which it is presented. If the author doesn't bother proofreading, why should I bother reading the post? A typo here and there is no big deal.

Independently of their content and form, I often find brawny, chauvinistic posts to be entertaining!

MarkC,

I don't understand the purpose of your continued attack against John that has taken this rather fun thread way off topic. In this and other threads, John has always been honest and frank about his spelling skills. Admitting one's challenges is a sign of great integrity and self esteem. Being judgmental and egotistic are not. Please, give it a rest.

If you read many of my posts, you'll know that I don't single out John for spelling errors, I'm an equal opportunity offender. I'd hope people have thicker skins than to get uptight about it.
I'm the first to admit my own mistakes and lack of perfection so ego doesn't enter into it.

wow, whatan uptight bunch of spelling beagles we have! im probably the worst typist here at bitog, but the truth is im lazy and dont care. im not looing to impress any of you. im not seeking employment, im not looking for intimate relations and i dont care who reads and does not read my posts. i put my text out there in interweb land and if some people want to pretend like they dont read it ill pretend like i care.
im lazy slob in real life, im lazy slob on the interweb too. ill be a lazy slob till im dead in the dirt. hey this is starting to sound like a country western song. no capital letters for me. somtimes i make runons entenes just to annoy people.
truth be told im actually good at spelling. im also good at typing, its just that i make lots of mistakes typing and i can NOT be bothered to correct them. i also can not be bothered with starting a sentence with a capital letter, and using squiggly things that come before the letter t like the word cant.

In defense of John's spelling, if he knows 4 languages, I can understand misspelling English words. I was once a great speller, until I studied other languages and my spelling in English went down hill. Different languages spell the same sounds in different ways. You sometimes forget which spelling is English. At least there is an attempt to spell things correctly. There are some posts(a few here but mostly on other forums) I have to study real hard to figure out because they leave out all punctuation and all capital letters. I get tired of that real fast.

The ability to spell has become obsolete. Software can do it faster and much more efficiently. Better to spend time honing other skills. I'd much rather work with a colleague who is smart and can figure things out than some uptight dude who obsseses over spelling errors but can't see the big picture.

I respectfully disagree.

This is one major reason why I have my spellchecker turned off- it forces me to think even though in all likelyhood (that word sure looks funny in print hehehe) I've blown it more than once...

As to understanding females, not even the most powerful supercomputers have been able to solve the mystery.

Being a great speller is still a nice skill, just like being able to juggle is a nice skill. But it doesn't have much correlation with productivity in most skill based jobs these days. Some of my brightest and most productive colleagues are non-native speakers who can't spell worth a dammmn. Their grammar stinks too. But running spell/grammar check makes their writing at least legible enough to allow the secretaries to smooth it out.

What spell checker can choose correctly between it's and its, there and their, there's and theirs, steak and stake etc?

It looks funny because you spelled it wrong. It's likelihood.
