Any problem with mixing PP and YB? Blend ideas?

I have 5qts of Pennzoil Platinum and 5qts of Pennzoil Yellow Bottle. Is it okay to mix 5w30 PP with 10w30 Yellow Bottle? I figure, I will likely get the best of both worlds like the syn blends off the shelf. If so, can I just pour 2.5 in and then the other 2.5 in, or do I need to mix beforehand?

Are there any negatives to doing this? Does anyone have better experience with mixing either with a some other particular brand? For example, does some other brand conventional mix behave particularly well with PP?

What are some other blends or topoffs you guys are doing, and why?

This will be going into a 3.8L Ford V6 by the way.

Go for it, it should be just fine. Right now I'm using a combination of Castrol GTX 5w30 (3 quarts) and Peak 5w30 (2 quarts) in my mom's Malibu with an oversized filter. It calls for 4.6 quarts, but the larger filter gives me more room to add an even amount. It's been in there for about a month now with no problems to report. Still runs the same as it always has

As I understand it you can mix the two without issue, however what weight is the vehicle spec'ed for? I thought most Fords at this point were 5w-20

No problem, but IMO, you'd be better off with either or. There's lots of differences in the add pack beyond PP's large dose of calcium, and that's for a reason.

I decided to make the change from dino to syn several months ago. I found a jug of Valvoline WB in my basement, after I had bought a jug of Synpower. I decided to mix the two and create my own blend and use it in both my vehicles. It ran just fine in both cars.

Pennzoil does make a synth blend.

The base stocks and additive packs of YB and PP are designed for those specific oils. You won't hurt anything, but you won't help anything, either.

I would use the PP 5w30 in your mild MS winter, and save the PYB 10w30 to use in your warmer months , like you have been....jmo

No problem with the mix, although if you plan on running it during the winter I would rather use all 5W30. Sorry, I see you're from Mississippi, you'll be fine.

I've done it to get me to the next OCI...kind of.

My '92 Lumina needed a few quarts of top off oil and I was at my OCI but didn't have time to do an oil/filter change. I was only going to go another two weeks so I dumped in couple of quarts of YB (same 5w30 grade).

I ending up going another 2k miles before I finally got around to it.

Total mileage on the OCI was about 9.5k miles (WAY longer than I usually go).

Don't ask why I let it get 2 qt's low.
