Anyone have experience using Dry Lube hBN (Hexagonal Boron Nitride) Powder as a Firearm Lubricant ?

If so, wondering what you used it for and the results. I see it available in powder form down to 0.5 micron size.

I am looking for a clean dry lube for the slide/extractor and internals on a 22LR Browning Buck Mark Semi Auto Pistol. This is used for timed competition events (steel plates and bowling pins) where round counts over 200 per event are common. I tend to clean powder residue after shooting but not one to disassemble and over clean/lubricate non-tactical firearms. I am not fond of using oils or grease as they attract dirt/debris inducing wear. 22LR ammo seems fairly "dirty" with respect to powder residue and bullet wax lube.

Any thought on hBN or other suitable lubricants?

Thanks

Subscribed. I coat bullets with it. It makes cleaning the gun easier, and is "supposed" to extend barrel life.

I also used to to coat bullets, 6mms, but I didn't think it did anything with regards to ease of cleaning. I also never saw any real velocity differce or CCB zero shift changes/improvements.

demarpaint

Interested in how you coat bullets with it. Assume you put bullets and hBN powder in a container or bag and shake it to apply coating to bullet and casing.

Have you ever used it on wax lubed Lead Round Nose 22LR ammo or copper jacketed bullets?

Interested in the process.

Thank

not demarpaint ... but I put a tiny amount (1/4 tsp'ish) of hBN in a tumbler, with a pack of copper BBs, and put the bullets in. I run it for 30 minutes or so. They come out dull gray when it's done.

I do pretty much the same. I ultrasonic clean the bullets and make certain they are dry. I warm them up in the sun or an oven to get them to about 130F, then tumble them in a peanut butter jar on a rotary rock tumbler with a small amount of hBN and some BBs for about an hour.

Interesting method. Appreciate the informations.

I always wanted a rock tumbler as a kid. Better start saving our peanut butter jars and get that rock tumbler I wanted as a kid. Plus I could polish some rocks.
