No participation trophies in my youth. One either made money or had no money. One fixed their car or it sat.....

The football slant makes me think of the great one liner from John McKay when coaching the Bucs; when asked by a reporter “What do you think of your teams execution coach?”, his reply was “I’m in favor of it”.

If we sugar coat now, that was coated in 20 grit sandpaper and ghost peppers.

I remember him saying that. I saw the television broadcast. Too funny.

My Dad was a big time Stanford fan. We used to go to the "Big Game", Stanford versus Cal.

In 1982 the Stanford band prematurely stormed the field with time on the clock, thinking Stanford had won the game, only to have Cal score an impossibly bizarre touchdown to win the game. I will never forget that game! RIP Dad.

Ediit: Here is the video. 37 years later it still gives me the chills! Notice the Stanford horn player who gets knocked on his butt. The announcer nearly passes out from all the excitement!
