Alright guys, I know this probly has been beat to death, but I never paid any attention to supertech threads, being I never used their stuff. Last night went to wally world for the first time in months and I picked up a 5qt jug of Supertech 5w30 for $8, for my wife's car. Her car is on 5k OCI's with dino & AAP filters (puolators). She drives it back and forth to work, bone stock 2006 Suzuki 2.3L I4cyl with 45k. We've owned it since new and I've run anywhere from Wix to P1's, white purolators, green QS, PP, etc. It's always run just as good on the high dollar stuff as the cheap stuff, MPG's are unchanged also. Car doesn't burn one drop. Mechanically it's a brick outhouse running like a tuned sewing machine. Cheap oil looks just as good/used as the PP and high end oils with 5k. What is supertech oil? Any good for basic 5k oci's?

IMO, for 5K OCI's you'll be fine. Bet you could even run SuperTech oil filters with zero problems, if your WallyWorld still carries them.

so this Supertech is bascially bare minimum, cheap oil. Hence the cheap price tag. Not ment for turbos, race cars, or hauling/towing or extended service. Just mom & pop that keep up with 3-5k OCI's on a car they get rid of every 5-7yrs. Basic bare minimal oil. Well for the car it's going in... it fits the bill. We don't plan on, or want to keep this car more than 100k. Looking at selling it in about 3more years, so 80k or 90k. I never let the oil changes go past 5k, so it'll be A-ok. And we'll save some cash. Cheap car, cheap oil.

Though you could go Quaker State for a buck more...

Buck more...it's $10.50 around me. I second the ST filter statement. It is a great filter.

It's SM / GF4 rated just like the high dollar name brands. It's got to be a really high quality oil to achieve these certifications. I've used it in OCI's up to 10,000 miles in my Buicks without a bit of problem.

Bill in Utah said it best. Don't judge an oil by its additive's, but how it performs. There are many here who use Supertech oil and have no issues. It's an oil priced to sell, I've switched to the supertech filters for my Xterra due to cost and them being built quite well for cheap(the non ST-XX, I bought the ST-XXXX) filters made by another company, I believe champion makes them.

ST is all I use in our Dodge Neon and Honda Ridgeline. I believe it to be as good as any other over the counter conventional oil. I run 7500-8000 mile oci in the Ridgeline. I can see down in the valve cover with the oil cap off, looks perfectly clean, no build up. The truck has 51,000 miles and I dont plan on changing oil brands. The ST oil is made by Warren or Mobil, two good companies. Like said before, it has to be a premiun oil to achieve those ratings. The price is low because Walmart uses their buying power to dictate the low price, Walmart probably buys the most oil out of anybody.

Ah, I figured it was a cheaped down Quaker state product. Guess I was wrong. So it's fine... Just a stock 2.3L Japanese box with 5k OCI's in perfect mechanical and cosmetic condition.

As for the oil filters..hehe. I lucked out and picked up 6 AAP brand filters (the red ones) on close-out for 95 cents each. :) They had more... I got enough to get the car to the point where we'll be looking to sell this thing in about 3yrs.

I would use the ST in anything, tow vehicle, turbocharged, ect, I dont believe the price has anything to do with the quality. I know a lot of people bash the ST line, but I dont like paying for those commercials and fancy bottles. Ever see a SuperTech commercial? Thats one reason the oil is lower in price, they dont have to pay for advertising, no fancy bottles and a zillion gallons bought by Walmart every year are why the price is low.

I'd probably pay 1-2$ more (for 5qt) and get a brand name for my piece of mind..
whats 4$ a year difference?

not like you are going upto 5$ a quart or anything.

but I doubt it hurts anything

Oil I would go 3k OCI.

The filters are great, good filter for 5k.

But the oil stick to 3k its additive pack is lacking IMO!
