I don't think I could get away from these trucks if I tried. 2005 Silverado 2500HD, extended cab - 6ft box, LQ4 6.0, 4L80E, 4x4, 4.10 rear end gear.

Dad bought this truck on eBay in 2016. Drove it very sporadically from 2017-2021, although never in winter. It mostly sat in the driveway. It has been inside his barn since late 2021. His goal was to tow the 5th wheel camper and use it as a hauler, but he never had much of an opportunity. Now with his 2022 Silverado, 5.3 L84/10-speed, this thing has just been sitting. Anything he tows now is easily done with the 1/2 ton. Maybe 100 miles have been put on since 2021.

He hasn't liked seeing it sitting, and I wanted another project. We did some talking and the truck made its way home today.

Carfax shows the truck was an Indiana truck, frame is super clean, cab is beautiful, but it needs rockers and cab corners. Not a big deal. Rest of the truck is clean.

Plans are in no particular order: rockers and cab corners, new tail lamps and headlights, body matched bumpers (front + rear), new grille, new headlights, full panel of maintenance, shocks, wheels + tires, traction bars, E-fan conversion (I pulled the K5L fans I put in my 2005 Tahoe for just this type of occasion), interior refresh (headliner, power + heated seat swap from junkyard units - recovered with new leather), center console from a Tahoe/Suburban, rebuild the cluster, all new LEDs in dash buttons/panels, pull carpet and clean it, CarPlay headunit, stealth box sub + amp in the center console.

And a big single turbo. Fuel system, injectors, Cam + springs for now. Run on some low boost. We'll see where it goes from there. Maybe forged rotating assembly with some LS3/823 heads.

Good thing these trucks are easy and they still litter the junkyards. Here's some pics. Already started taking off the faded door bumpers and getting the foam tape/glue off. So much cleaner with out them. Running boards, mud flaps, window visors and bug shield are all going as well.

Man, I'm not much of a domestic guy, but if something that clean appeared in my area, I would have it in my driveway. I always liked that generation Chevy trucks for some odd reason.

I'm a pretty handy person and the cab corners and rockers would be an easy project. They still make patch panels for these trucks. I remember doing the rocker patch on my '99 S10.

Such a nice truck with those low miles, I wouldn't care too much about the rockers if it was mine. I like the window visors on mine they give sunlight reduction so I don't need to use the visor and let me have the window down a bit when it rains. If you're gonna pull the carpet see what new carpet and maybe the insulation costs if it smells. I think many places still cut them to size and don't too charge much. I'll be doing it to both my old trucks I won't bother trying to clean them anymore. I'll change both gray carpets with black.

I think the OP was showing how he is removing the belt line trim (bumpers) and cleaning it up. It does look better without that chunky plastic. My 04 GMC had a thinner chrome strip that looked nice.

Gonna be a great truck for you. That style has the best seats!!! My 2012 was a torture chamber in comparison.

Didn't GM claim XX% more stiffness when they went to updated chassis in I think 2011?
They had to 'cause the '08 SuperDuty frame makeover put the previous GMT900 frame to shame.

I'm always in favor of beefier framerails, welded tubular xmembers and massive, gusseted spring hangers. I think here competition is good for the consumer, esp considering what modern trucks can tow AND haul. The old square body frames are noodles.

That's a keeper. Mind if I ask what you are using to get the foam/tape glue off of the body from the removed door guards? I'm halfway through pulling them off of my 2013 1500 and that information would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone. Truck got an oil change yesterday, an amalgamation of some left over M1 FS 0W-40, M1 ESP 0W-30, Rotella T4 15w40 and then finished the rest on ESP 0W-30. It got a PG made MSL51522.

Also a front and rear right caliper and hoses, passenger front rotor and front pads. The rest was fine.

These have the C-channel frame being a 2500? That makes all the difference with these. Nice truck to have!
I believe the frame is fully boxed but I could be wrong. I was just under it and it doesn’t look like a c channel. But maybe that’s the rear section.
Low boost turbo? Is that a thing in these?
Yeah, just run it on about 10lbs of boost and the LQ4 should live pretty happy.

I am using a 3m rubber eraser wheel on my mini polisher or a drill. It chews thru the rubber but doesn’t harm the clear coat print. I have most of the glue off now and need to go over with some glue gone and then eventually polish the doors to remove staining.

They look much better without the door moldings. Here’s a pic of my dad’s old ‘04. Pic taken in 2012. He removed them in around 2009. Love GMT800’s.
