Was at Wal-Mart today and was unpleseantly shocked

when I saw the Esso XD3 0W40 price. Last time I was there it was $22.96/4 litre, Canadian...$35.14 now. Guess I won't be buying that again.
M1 TDT was 41 something for 5 litres...almost the same now. Xd3 used to be a good quality synthetic for a decent price. Now its a good quality syn for the same price as any other high end synthetic.

I think they are all going up as anything related to crude is. I think motor oil is a bit behind but it won't be for long. Hope I'm wrong......

It will be interesting to see if the recent 20% drop in crude prices will be reflected in the stores in a few months. Not holding my breath.

You might look at the 0w40 sold by United Farmers of Alberta (UFA). It's supposed to be repackaged XD3 0w40, and it ought to be cheaper.

And BIGOIL made billions during that time, so, they're really gouging us now, right?

We would all like to have our cake and eat it too. We are lucky that our lube prices have not directly mirrored the rise in crude prices - we'd be paying a heck of a lot more than we are now.

We are lucky our prices at the pump did not mirror the rise in crude prices. To use current prices from the EIA, and to compare with one year ago: crude is up 60%, RUG at the pump is up 34%, and ULSD at the pump is up 45%. Prices at the pump have not gone up nearly as fast as prices at the refineries and terminals.

I agree that complaining about a 50% rise in lubricant prices is short-sighted (and that's from the prices we paid when crude oil was $30-50/barrel) -- at some point we will wish that prices might drop back to the levels where they are today.

I just got back from vacation (out of country all September) and am just shocked.

Should have stocked up before.
