My mom shared this yesterday.

An amusing story (with a sad twist) about an archaeologist who was visiting his dentist, and the "souvenir" that the dentist had received as payment from a fisherman client kicked off an extremely successful expedition for the shipwrecks from the Battle of Aegates, which happened some 2,262 years ago.

While the wood of the ships has long since disappeared, the bronze pieces that made up the nose, used to ram and stall others have of course stayed in remarkable condition. The detail in the inscriptions and the figures is really quite something to behold, in terms of metalworking skills.

Unfortunately, the archaeologist who got this all off the ground tragically died in the Ethiopian airlines disaster.
