That thought has occured to me many times about many topics. People don't care to gain a very very basic understanding of how a car works, how a computer works, how the economy works, how elections works, and I'm confused by the apathy. Genealogy is just in my "apathetic" column.

I get it. I guess since one of my main interests in life has always had something to do with history, genealogy ties right into that.

......and in 20 years your denied cancer insurance because of a dna test you took in 2016 shows your a high risk let us know how that works out for you.....LOL....we share your information with third parties...it is right there in their privacy statement man....

Yep. People do not think stuff though. There is no telling how this is going to come back and get you. The bad part is that you'll probably be required to submit to a DNA test to do anything in the not so distant future.

You must not have read it through...because you are not correct.

Why the LOL snipe? 76 posts and you've already started to behave like a teenager?

Sarge is wrong. I think before others start accusing people of "not thinking it through"....maybe it would be best to not take a strangers word for it on a message board?

As administrator of my DNA sample, I have control over who can and can not see my results. Besides all that....if the guys in black SUV's want to get a persons DNA....it's extremely simple to accomplish.

I think Al said he's now 70, so I don't think your scenario will be an issue

Yeah OK. Huge corps can't keep credit card data secure. But your data is secure for all time and will never be sold, stolen, or shared. LOL.

People PAY MONEY to get added to a DNA database!!?? A DNA database that the police/FBI/authorities will eventually access if they haven't already.

NO THANKS!!!

I could care less to know that my 4th cousin twice removed on my mothers uncle's side of the family died at Gettysburg. Whoopy.

100's of thousands of us are already in it.

Thx OP!

I'm the reason why one shouldn't divulge information on the interwebs. If there is a useless fact, such as Al's age, it's probably in my head.

As I said earlier, if anybody wanted a DNA sample from an individual....it's extremely simple to get.
I guess you don't grasp that then?

I'm over 50 years old...I have no concern about any entity knowing my DNA results. I'm not paranoid. Nor do I go onto message boards for the singular purpose of being a wet blanket.

I got a 23andme test for free (as part of a research group). My wife liked the information it provided but she went and got the Ancestry one because it was cheaper.

The 23andme test results are SO MUCH PRECISE than the Ancestry test. Mine provided a ton of DNA information as well as some pretty specific heritage information. The Ancestry one was pretty generic, some basic heritage information and nothing else.

If you really want so information, spring for the $199 23andme. If just some basic information without much insight is all you want then the $99 ($79 on sale) Ancestry test is fine.

I guess you do not understand the difference between bulk data collection and sending out ninja collection squads. I'm also not sure what your age has to do with anything. You being dead doesn't mean they won't be interested in your family that possible have the offending trait they discovered when they went through the data.

The older you are, the less value it would have as it might pertain to being used against you.
You worry about things not worthy of concern. If a DNA sampling was important enough to the "powers" that be, they'd not limit themselves to a few Ancestry type organizations that only contain a fraction of samples from the population. And you don't need "Ninja" to get it otherwise.

I actually think you should either stop giving clues as to what your point is....and spell it out. Be detailed...explain yourself instead of speaking in tongues. Everybody has family members that have genetic health issues. An insurance can't illegally obtain DNA information and then deny you coverage. Most of them don't even care and just want you to purchase a policy without even a real medical exam.

Why am I even discussing this with you?

Yes...I saw that one advertised and did read some reviews where they were rated pretty good. I'll possibly do another one with them in the future.

No idea why you're arguing with me. If you think it's wonderful carry on. If you think the data is secure good for you. Clearly the data isn't secure, and also subject to any future regulations implemented by people who are looking for a buck or power. But if you're happy that's all that matters.

Bless your heart...I am a decade older than you according to your post anyway that your 50.
I started on this website many years ago.....Terry Dyson and many of the old timers will verify that fact. I was a moderator on LS1.com for years....so I have no idea what my post count has to do with anything......oh well....Havent been on here for a long long time and came back for a visit.....have no idea what happened to my old user name...doesnt matter.....
So anybody that doesnt embrace your ideas to give their DNA to some company (for whatever their reason) is a teenager and we are going to attack them and call them names?
OK...you da man...........LOL
